Here's my problem:

I set up a custom property tab through the "Property Tab Builder" that takes input from designers, basically filling out a gear data table. I also had a sketch block that was basically just a spline profile so that designers could insert the block and then edit it to put their own values in and then use an extrude cut or swept cut to make the teeth.

What I want to know is: Is there a way to make sketch blocks pull the properties from whichever configuration the part was in when the block was inserted?

I have been playing around with it and can set up equations to pull from A SPECIFIC configuration but not variable configurations.

I hope that question was clear, any help on this would be appreciated.

Thank you.

(I have also asked this question in the sketch section but have gotten no response)

Hi John

You can choose which way round the update happens here.  Always make sure you have a backup of your design table

Re: Is there a way to make sketch blocks pull configuration specific properties?

Thank you for responding,

I am aware of that option and have it enabled, I think I need to reword my problem:

I have a design table that edits dimensions on a sketch block, it is working and the sketch block changes when I change the design table and vise-versa.

I also have custom properties set up to take input and create named properties in the custom properties tab, these properties are config. sp.

I want to know how to get the design table to pull the values that users enter into the config. sp. properties.

ex: I name a property for measurement over wires as MOW in config. 020, what to I put in the design table so that the design table reads MOW at config "020 Gear Cut" ?

Would it be something like:
"MOW@@020 Gear Cut" ? (Without quotes)

Or is there a way to do something along the lines of "Link to property > Model found here" similar to what we have when pulling custom properties to notes in drawings?

I don't think you have to do anything special, I just had a quick go... do you not get this

SW added the property for me automatically, but the syntax is $PRP@...

Re: Is there a way to make sketch blocks pull configuration specific properties?

That would be linking a custom property to the design table, how would I then link that to a particular dimension?

The header I am using is for the dimension I want to modify, instead of entering a numeric value below the header I want to enter a config. spec. property's name.

In my table I have headers to control particular dimensions in my sketch block, the highlighted numbers are what I enter to change the sketch block. I want to know if there is a way to change those highlighted numbers to something like "PA@020 Gear Cut", "MOW@020 Gear Cut" ect...

If I am seeing what you are doing it looks like I could just use your header "$PRP@PA" in column B and then set the cell value of C3 to "=B3" to pull the value from the next column over. It would look a bit more sloppy but it seems like it would work. Thank you! I will play around with it a bit more and see if I could refine it but this is definitely a huge step forward.

Re: Is there a way to make sketch blocks pull configuration specific properties?

Using this method is a bit messy at the moment (The design table keeps changing my already input config properties.) But it definitely works for now, thank you!

If I could get it to pull directly from the property instead of  using a column it wouldn't freely modify the property and would be a bit cleaner and keep people from accidentally overwriting their input values. Any idea on how that could be done?
