The leaves are changing colors, football is in full swing (American football that is), and turkeys are finding themselves on edge. It’s fall, SOLIDWORKS users, and, in my opinion, the best part of the fall season is the smell of pumpkin pie in the air. We’re celebrating the season by bringing you a 4 part series where we’ll be modeling this pumpkin pie spice jar, complete with a custom threaded cap, living hinge, and a custom decal. We will design this jar in the shape of a pumpkin, which is

It’s been awhile since the last blog and much has been accomplished on the Torpedo. Here’s an update on those accomplishments. If you want to start reading from the beginning, or any of the others you can navigate here: Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 In the last blog I mentioned the next major milestone Rob Ida was to undertake was marrying the body to the chassis. Rob succeeded in this milestone at the end of July when the body structure was lifted off the wooden buck

“Electronics” is a very generic word today. It wasn’t when I was growing up, but I did grow up in somewhat of an electronics revolution, as PCs and electronic toys made their exciting debut when I was a kid. I was fascinated by how adding electronics to everyday toys brought them to life in a way I had never imagined possible. Today, that evolution continues.

Thor’s Hammer: This familiar hammer packs a nice punch in trying to show some time saving modeling techniques. This multi-body part is made using mostly extrudes and a few sweeps sprinkled in. This model uses thin features for some of the extruded bosses and cuts to speed up sketch time. Mirroring geometry and patterns are used to save time and to keep the feature count down.

To collaborate with suppliers, engineers often need to send technical documents such as CAD models, neutral STEP files, 2D drawings, QA provisions, and internal standards. This list goes on, and each document in this long list may generate its own revisions over time. In order to consolidate the fragmented documents, the U.S. Military Standard 31000A: 2013 recommended a concept called Technical Data Package (TDP). The gist is to bundle multiple technical documents together into one package to

Our planet’s population is increasing. People are everywhere – and they all need to be somewhere else. As a result, mass transport is becoming a problem, as big as the exceeding populations themselves. The question is less about where we go from here and more about how we get there.

Are you a Plastic Part Designer, Process Engineer, and/or an Injection Mold Designer that needs real world answers to the following questions? Has my plastic part design been optimized to ensure optimal cycle time? How can I reduce tooling costs, lead time and eliminate tooling revisions? How can SolidWorks Simulation Technology leverage my Scientific Molding process?

I have some planes and axes in a part that I want to hide, and some others that I want to show. And then, at some point, I'll want to switch, and hide the ones I could see and show the ones that were hidden. These axes are almost coincident, but not quite, so to make sure I select the correct axis, I turn half of them off.

Retaining Hole Wizard Data Multibody Parts I have a multibody part that I then insert each body into it's own part. Seems that hole wizard data isn't retained though as drawings just reference the hole size.

Model keeps dropping Today, when I started solidworks and opened a part, something new came up. A small simbol in the center of the canvas (check the attachment), and the part kept slowly dropping by itself.

How do you currently address this problem, without creating a new configuration? Imagine you have an assembly with several display states. Each display state has various components hidden.

Having the component reference is very handy when working alongside the electrical folks, but when the BOM breaks it up into multiple lines it sure creates challenges when importing the BOM into an inventory system. Lots of manual work to recognize that you need to purchase 5 resistors instead of 5 individual items. Under Part configuration grouping do you have "Display as one item number" checked?
