Richard first came up with the idea of constructing a bridge using fettuccine pasta, while pushing a shopping cart alongside his wife, Carmy, at a supermarket. As Carla stopped in the aisle stacked with a variety of pastas, Richard carefully observed the different types of pastas, appreciating the uniformity inside of the packaging. He recalls thinking, “To try and make something like that would be very difficult to say the least.

SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation is an extraordinarily powerful program. Fire tornadoes, cold beers by the grill, supersonic jets or even dragons can be analyzed in Flow Simulation with amazing results. You may have seen some of these examples before but did you know the setup for these kinds of studies is actually really simple? It is as easy as 1-2-3, what is happening, what do you know, and what do you want to know?

For anyone who has struggled to select the correct face of a component while mating, there is a new feature to help. Whether we’re trying to find the face on the assembly or the component to mate, there is a new Component Preview Window in SOLIDWORKS that was noted as one of the top new features in SOLIDWORKS 2016. It can aid in tricky mating situations such as odd angle insertions or just out-of-view geometry. This can be used with any component in an assembly or subassembly.

SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation is great at modeling the physics around us. It’s a tool that we can use to help us make informed design decisions. By running different what-if scenarios, we can figure out the best way to design our products, but it doesn’t have to stop there. The physics don’t stop working because it’s after 5pm or the weekend.
