Today student competitions can range from underwater to first reaches of space and everywhere in between. Students in these events get a chance to work with a fantastic range of technologies. A team can be made up students involved with disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, electronic, simulation, software development. Tasks involve activities including logging telemetry data after a test run flight, etc. and performing an FEA run on a structural frame design for a robot or Formula SAE car

European Rover Challenge is Europe’s largest space and robotic featuring science, business, new-technology sector, and the general public. Held in Jasionka, Poland, last month, students, researchers, and industry professionals participated in the Martian robot competition and exhibition. Over 60 student teams took part from 12 countries, including Canada, Italy, Peru, Australia and U.S. Poland, with the largest participation, 17 teams, engaged the crowd in this exciting engineering competition.

Innovation in robotic technology is expanding all over the world. Sogang University, department of mechanical engineering, researchers and students create the wearable robot, ANGELEGS and the WalkON Suit. NASA Sample Return Robot Challenge encourages innovation in autonomous robotics as teams locate and collect samples across a wide variety of terrain and obstacles without human intervention. The Cataglyphis Mountaineers robotics team from West Virginia University (WVU) college of engineering, under the direction of Dr Yu Gu, rose to the challenge, worked together, and last week won the $100,000 NASA prize.
