It seems like we were just at SOLIDWORKS World 2017 last week announcing the addition of SOLIDWORKS CAM as part of our Design-to-Manufacturing solution. Since then, we have been busy building and testing SOLIDWORKS CAM. As you may know, SOLIDWORKS CAM is powered by CAMWorks®, and that allowed us to start a private beta in April. We received great feedback and enhancements for the 2018 version that has been in beta since July.

I spent some time recently walking around town trying to get a battery replaced in my watch. After the fourth jewellers shop failed to remove the back was resided to sending it back to the manufacturer for repair. That was until I walked past the 3d printer in the office one day and had the idea to design make the tools to do the job myself, so off I went! CAD and CAM are so frequently lumped together that many people outside our industry have a difficult time separating the two. “CAD/CAM” has become a single catchall phrase for two very different processes; modeling and machining a part. That line becomes even more blurred with the powerful integrated CAM software available to today’s SolidWorks users.

20130123_082406 Four days have come and gone so quickly. From guest speakers, roller coasters, new technology, inspiring stories, and an artificial flying bird, SolidWorks World 2013 delivered. For me, this was the first time I have attended SolidWorks World, and I was blown away. Being immersed in this large community of 4700 other designers, engineers, manufacturers, and innovators from all over the world was truly an experience.
