Egypt’s Masoura University Formula Student racing team, under the direction of faculty mentor, Dr Mohammed Awad, use their engineering skills both in and out of the classroom to compete on a world-wide stage. In their senior capstone design project, students not only analyzed their vehicle’s engine, with SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation, but also learned from these CFD results to improve design through iterations and to successfully compete as a Formula Student racing team.

European Rover Challenge is Europe’s largest space and robotic featuring science, business, new-technology sector, and the general public. Held in Jasionka, Poland, last month, students, researchers, and industry professionals participated in the Martian robot competition and exhibition. Over 60 student teams took part from 12 countries, including Canada, Italy, Peru, Australia and U.S. Poland, with the largest participation, 17 teams, engaged the crowd in this exciting engineering competition.

Innovation in robotic technology is expanding all over the world. Sogang University, department of mechanical engineering, researchers and students create the wearable robot, ANGELEGS and the WalkON Suit. The UK’s University School of Engineering Warwick Satellite Team (WUSAT) continues to innovate with their development of a cube-shaped nano satellite, carried into space on a REXUS rocket. This multi-discipline engineering team is using SOLIDWORKS to design and manufacture their product to support atmospheric research to establish a method for discovering Earth-like exoplanets.

WPI was the first college in the USA to offer an undergraduate degree in Robotics Engineering. The first edition of the OPEN_MINDS design contest was held in Gdansk University of Technology and the Academy of Fine Arts, Poland. The contest was held in conjunction with SolidExpert Poland our SOLIDWORKS Value Added Reseller. Design students created solutions to make shopping easier for people with limited mobility and restriction to wheelchairs.

With a 94 year history, the Women in Engineering Society has been celebrating the accomplishments of women in design and engineering. The Velvet Revolution of November/December 1989 created a new country with students ready to compete on a global stage.
