Re: WPUC Videos (Weekly Power User Challenge)

Alin, I think this is terrific to collect and post on YouTube.  Others outside of this forum will see these and have a chance to learn some very clever things.

Since I'm not one to post to YouTube I was wondering if there is a way to provide a file or a link for the discussions and other solutions for each of these challenges.  By your own admission choosing a winner is sometimes difficult.  Because those other solutions are also clever and valid it would be good to also share those solutions and the supporting commentary.  Perhaps it could be as simple as a link to the forum post where the individual challenges were conducted.

Alin, in my opinion, the weekly challenge has really made this Forum shine.

Thank you for putting it on.

Dan, I learned so much from these challenges myself! They prove the value of brainstorming for the SOLIDWORKS Community.

I have some other ideas about promoting them, but I am afraid they might sound too presumptuous (official certificates, a SWW break-out session, maybe even asking SW personnel if they are interesting in recognizing the winners somehow...).

The good thing is the opportunity to build a good library of crazy techniques.

Alin Vargatu - Thank you for doing this, it surely gives us a chance to increase SolidWorks exposure in a way that has been a surprise for a lot of us. As you see the anticipation for the next challenge is growing every week, plus it does get others involved that were just watching, also this is an awesome opportunity for people to showcase their answers to the challenges that are presented and the final result is, we are all learning.

Again Thank You.....

John, you have been instrumental in getting this initiative off the ground. Plus you are the first WPUC winner.

I LIKE John's suggestion a lot (with my one Like vote, but it is a very emphatic one!).  These challenges are, well, challenging!  They have already revealed a lot in the way of clever techniques as well as possible new features (to be added only after ONE and TWO has been properly addressed).

Re: WPUC Videos (Weekly Power User Challenge)

(From the The 7th Weekly Power-User Challenge (June 2nd, 2017): Simulate a Volume Mate (Prisoner in Jail)  post)

Here is one thought....

Set up a Online Voting Poll for the people here on the forum to Vote one time only for their pick of the Top Ten - The contestants would be whoever has won any of the Challenges within that season which would run a calendar year starting January 1st..

Here is where your credibility with SolidWorks Corporate would come into play, I would push for the Top Five getting a free trip to SolidWorks World and the Bottom Five having some kind of nice plaque in recognition for making a difference in the community.

This would put you and all the VAR's in a neutral position and the people that can apply the awesome challenges to their daily work, will be the ones making the decisions sending the top five.

And.... You Alin Vargatu will do the honors at the SWW - and oh - I'll take chocolate milk please..

Let's invite Rachel York to this conversation.

Re: WPUC Videos (Weekly Power User Challenge)

For sure, it would be a pleasure having Rachel York in this conversation.  Thanks to you Alin, the challenges showcase some pretty awesome techniques and a Don't Quit attitude,  that 99.9% of the users would have thrown up their hands a long time ago, it is possible.

Hey Alin,

I just found this:

Stump the Chumps Session on Crazy Modeling Tools and Techniques

Is this the pre-cursor to the WPUC's?

Wow, nice find. It was a wild brainstorming event, for sure. Was probably my favorite SWUG session ever.

I am surprised that SWUGs do not organize this kind of sessions more often.

You can ask AEs from various VARs to be the chumps and you will have a nice surprise. You will see how people working for competing VARs can collaborate very well, along with their customers.

What I remember from that presentation, was that everyone took turns to fill the Chump role. Any challenge would go off on crazy tangents... Fantastic experience!

Why don't you suggest this idea to your SWUG leader?

By: Alin Vargatu  Wed, 25 Oct 2017 19:20:23 GMT
Re: WPUC Videos (Weekly Power User Challenge)

1) Never been to a SWUG meeting (but that doesn't mean that I can't be a part of one)

2) Our SWUG leader seems to have fallen off the planet.   No responses to emails or anything.  She actually used to work for the same company I work for, just a different division.  So there haven't been any meetings in about 2 years or so (as I recall)

Talk to Richard, then. Maybe he can help find a new leader. Would you like to become one?

There are many perks, including free access to SWW...

Re: WPUC Videos (Weekly Power User Challenge)

sounds like you need to find the contact for your user group support (SolidWorks User Group Network ) and revive the group.

revolutions must happen when leaders drop out of the limelight.  lots of stuff can happen to a person between meetings and somone needs to be able to step up....
