As we look to 2021, I know students will learn and be inspired from great educators and engineers to solve problems for our future. Civil Engineer, Gustave Eiffel created the global icon that continues to inspire us. What if Mr. Eiffel used the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to collaborate with his team of engineers? Engineering students today utilize tools like SOLIDWORKS to learn from the past and inspire our future.

As time closes in to end the year, I have met hundreds of educators and students – through video, chat, and email. Educators and students earned a “Perseverance” Award as they continue to learn with SOLIDWORKS on their home computer, the cloud app, xDesign on their school’s Chromebook, or SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids on a tablet. 2020 explored new software in and out of the classroom, showing that educators, no matter what the obstacles, continue to teach and students continue to learn. Around the

PART ONE: Bridge Lesson Michael Steeves had a simple desire: get involved with his local community. His eldest daughter just started kindergarten, and he wanted a way to connect with her and other kids. His daughter’s elementary school had an after school enrichment program packed with activities, all sorts of sports, dance classes, music lessons, art, tech classes where students learned how to use programming through Scratch. I recently took a trip to visit some of the schools I work in Montana to discuss their STEM Program. One of the schools I visited called Billings Career Center, a Career, and Technical education-focused school, had an exciting project they worked on with NASA using our STEM in a BOX program. The teacher and his students designed parts in SOLIDWORKS, then 3D printed prototypes, and machined the final versions. They then sent the finished versions to NASA.

“Simple things seem to derive the most pleasure from everyone” – Corporal Willy Corporal Willy with a Epilog 120 Watt Laser The very first time we tried doing a 3D carving, we took just two pieces of scrap wood and glued them together. I looked for two pieces that were not cracked or had any knots or other irregular surface features to them. However, as the machine finished the carving, a knot showed up right at the end of the Wolf’s nose. Rob made this one on a laser machine for a friend’s
