length in weldment cut list
SOLIDWORKS Forums

Hi,

Is anybody noticing this in 2018, I have a weldment and in weldment the custom properties I have added a length field which is named "SW-Length" (using the apostrophe sign above the 2 on the key board), but in the cut list parts it doesn't show the actual length it just show "SW-Length", not the length of the part

I am sure this was an issue a few years ago has it reappeared? Or am I doing something wrong.

Thanks

Mark (SolidWorks 2018)

Re: length in weldment cut list

Hi Mark

AFAIK Sw-Length only works with a 3d bounding box

edit, sorry misread your question.. remove the quotes (works in 2016)

but look at this...

Re: length in weldment cut list

Hi Rob,

No I think something is wrong with this, because I have messes around with is and if I delete the apostrophise then it still show as SW-Length but if I delete them and then re-insert them the length appears. 820. Are you on 2018, because this is the first time I have used weldments in this version and it worked ok before upgrading.

Thanks

Mark

Hi Mark

I'm on 2016

To recreate your procedure, this is how it works for me

Thanks

Re: length in weldment cut list

Hello Mark,

I see the same problem in 2018sp1 when I add Length as a property for the Weldment feature. Then it evaluates to "SW-Length". But if I add it manually it get the length evaluated. In 2017sp5 it works both ways, so this is a problem in the latest version. You, or your VAR should submit an SR to SolidWorks in order to get this fixed.

Length defined in the Weldment properties

Length defined in cut-list properties (the manual workaround).

Re: length in weldment cut list

Yep that looks like the logical outcome.

One thing I notice is the quotes are automatically added in the DESCRIPTION property in your 2018 images but my 2016 DESCRIPTION

reads PLATE, SW-Thickness ... without quotes.

They definitely changed something and introduced this error

Re: length in weldment cut list

Hi Rob,

As Sindre has confirmed this issue with 2018 I have just sent an example off to my VAR to confirm this issue. If they do I have asked that they raise a service request with SolidWorks.

Thanks

Re: length in weldment cut list

You must create bounding box for each cut-list item. After this you can use "SW-Length" for each cut-list item

SW-Length in cut-list.GIF

but not in custom properties because you can have more than one cut-list items. Hence in custom properties you should write like this

SW-Length.GIF

to inform SW what cut-list item you mean

Re: length in weldment cut list

Hi Igor,

I have never had to do that before, I just right click on Weldments and select properties I then include  a property called Length with a value of "SW-Length". this property then automatically appears in all the cut list items. this is how I have always  done it except it doesn't now seem to work in 2018.

Thanks

Re: length in weldment cut list

everything changes)) It`s good idea to read Whats new each time you get new version:)

Re: length in weldment cut list

And I`m not sure that you are right for custom properties (how SW and you undestand what body you mean?)

Re: length in weldment cut list

Hi Igor,

He's an example done prior to 2018, you will notice in this version I didn't even have to us apostrophes. Info added in Weldment properties.

And this is what automatically appears in the cut list item properties

Thanks

Re: length in weldment cut list

Now I understand you!You told about weldment properties (not custom properties dialog).OK.

Your problem is solved?

Re: length in weldment cut list

Not in Ver 2018 it not.

Re: length in weldment cut list

Be carefull, this dialog doesn`t give you ability to populate Mass to cut-list item (it gives you mass of whole weldment)

Re: length in weldment cut list

Worked ok prior to 2018. as you can see by the screen shots the cut list part weight is not the same as the weldment part weight it lighter.

Now I've checked in 2018 even the mass is not working correctly I have to chose flattened mass

Re: length in weldment cut list

Now Mass is system cut-list property you don`t need to include it to weldment properties. SW-Mass property is a mass of whole weldment

Re: length in weldment cut list

Do you know about new ability to assign name of cut-list item folder to cut-list property?

Cut-list item name.png

You don`t find it in weldment properties too(

Re: length in weldment cut list

Hi Mark,

See the help 2018 - It might have something to do with that.

Otherwise try to delete the bounding boxes for your cutlist and recreate it again. Can also be done automatically

Re: length in weldment cut list

Hello Mark,

I see you have several Plates in your Part.  Have you ever considered creating the plates as weldments using the Structural Member function?  If you set it up correctly all the information can be generated automatically, including length.  See Using Plate in Weldments.

Re: length in weldment cut list

Hi Mark,

Have you tried removing/unchecking the "rename cut list folders with Description property value" in the document properties under the weldments section. I have noticed that when I have this turned on it causes values such as length to not be evaluated correctly.

Here is example what happens for me (2016 SP5):

weldment prop..PNG

Weldment Properties set first then I added a bounding box to both bodies.

Before rename cutlist folders.PNG

Going into properties now everything looks fine and as desired.

But if I go into the document properties and check "rename cut list folders with Description property value"

it results in the cultist properties to not evaluate correctly (my length came through ok but all the other properties were messed up)

dfsdfs.PNG

With box checked.PNG

Hope this helps!

Re: length in weldment cut list

Hi Michael,

No its a regression by SolidWorks as they have confirmed via email, it is due to be fixed in 2018 SP3.

This is what they said

We have received a response from SOLIDWORKS regarding the
“SW-Length” issue, this is what they have said:

“Thanks for reporting the problem and apologies for the
delayed response. We have confirmed the issue on our end as regression and
referred to the Development team with reference as SPR 1068051”

You will be notified when this issue has been resolved, thanks
for bringing this to our attention.

Thanks

Re: length in weldment cut list

Well that is good to know, we will be upgrading to 2018 in the next few months so hopefully this all gets addressed.

Re: length in weldment cut list

Yeah, at the moment 2018 weldments is not very good, I've stopped using it. Hopefully SP3 will fix these issues and have it back working as pre the 2018 version.

Thanks

Re: length in weldment cut list

Hi,

As stated before Soildworks have agreed that this a regression in version 2018 and have emailed me saying it will be fixed in 2018 SP3.

Thanks

Hi,

Just so every one is aware, SP3 fixed the problem I was having and it is now working as in previous releases.
