One of the great experts of SolidWorks Sheet Metal, Wayne Tiffany, passed away this past Saturday of cancer at age 57. Someone said he had over 8,000 posts on this (and other?) forums. He has greatly contributed to the success of SolidWorks, and was one of the nicest people you'd ever meet. See more under "General."

Thought some would like to see a great visual demonstration of how K factors work. Check this link out for more information: http://www.solidworker.com/30/k-factors-and-fun-with-sketch-equations/ SolidworksSheet Metal

Hi All, Can any one suggest me K factor for stainless steel and aluminium for defferent thickness. I use 0.285 for SS and 0.33 for AL Facing problem in achieving exact bending dimension. SolidworksSheet Metal

Im trying to model a belt guard and cannot seem to create either a miter or edge flange off a particular edge i need. I can do any edge but the one i need and the one time i did get an edge flange to work it gave me errors when trying to flatten the part. Attached are some basic pictures of what im trying to do. Ive spent a good 8 hours on a part that should take 20 minutes.

I'm curious what others do on their design along with their drawings on PEM studs...nuts etc? I do not call the holes out on these items. I let the shop who is punching the parts decide on the correct size according to the PEM they are installing. Tim SolidworksSheet Metal

Has anyone used or had any luck with the sheet metal features for bending polycarbonate or plastic in general? The plastics stretch more than sheet metal, so I assume that the bend allowance and/or K-factor would need to be adjusted. Thank you SolidworksSheet Metal

I don't know if anyone else suffers with this problem. When I try to detail a mirrored sheetmetal part I can never get the bend lines and notes to appear as they should but I have a workaround. After the mirrored part is converted to a sheetmetal part, delete the DefaultSM-Sheetmetal config created and then recreate the config manually and all bend lines and notes are there. When saving a dxf/flat pattern from within the sheetmetalmodel envoironment I have noticed that the orientation of the blankis not how it is created. Although this does not cause anydifficulties I am just a little curious as to how solidworks ismanaging the dxf export?SolidworksSheet Metal

As anyone seen this happern before? I was just simply workingaway minding my own business and to save a little time creatingdrawings I decided to open an existing drawing but choose adifferent part for a reference (both parts are sheet metal andpretty much the same except for an additional flange) but as soonas I did solidworks deleted the flat pattern config all byitself!SolidworksSheet Metal

Does anyone have experience of bending textured stainlesssheet as supplied by companies like Rimex. Standard guage tables sometimes do not apply when using thesematerials. I think this may be because, for example, a texturedplate of 16 guage will read 2mm against the usual 1.6mm(nominal). Any advice would be appreciated.SolidworksSheet Metal

I used the k-factor bend table sample to build a table forvarious thicknesses of material. After I made the first few changesI tested the table and it worked perfectly. Then I proceeded tomake the rest of my changes. Now I get the error message that thetable is invalid.
