If you miss attending a local maker faire or visiting a FabLab, come with me on a virtual tour of the Maker Space at the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab through our recordings created for 3DEXPERIENCE World 2021. The 3DEXPERIENCE Lab in Boston, MA continues to hold virtual classes with fabbers and makers enrolled in the global FabLab courses through the Fab Foundation. We also continue to support start-up innovators through our 3DEXPERIENCE Lab accelerator. Here are some of my favorite makers featured at

DESIGN I designed the clock in SOLIDWORKS and took advantage of exploded views so I could see how pieces would line up. This was important for this project because The clock needs to be easily opened up for occasional battery replacement. CUT I cut out the pieces out of walnut on the shop bot (CNC router) that we have in the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab. My design is pretty simple for the CNC so I was able to cut all the pieces using vector files that I exported from SOLIDWORKS.

Where we last left off, I had finished a prototype that I wasn’t quite happy with. One of my main issues with the prototype was that the fit and finish wasn’t quite up to par with what I wanted my end result to be. This was due in part to the drawbacks of using the laser cutter on a larger project, such as charring around the edges of cut lines. So to counteract these drawbacks, I decided to create the guitar stand on the DASSAULT SYSTEMES 3DEXPERIENCE Lab’s ShopBot CNC router.

One of my first projects as an intern in the DASSAULT SYSTEMES 3DEXPERIENCE Lab was to create a guitar stand for the Lava Drop X xDesign Edition electric guitar. This guitar was designed specifically for DASSAULT SYSTEMES, and was featured at SOLIDWORKS World 2019. The guitar’s designer, Rapolas Gražys, used the 3D Creator role on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and utilized xDesign to design the instrument. Upon receiving this assignment I was really excited to push my boundaries as a student

Hello all. I’m Nick Zhang, a rising senior at Pennsylvania State University – University Park, studying mechanical engineering. Working in the Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE Lab, I have plentiful resources to develop my skills in manufacturing, modeling, and engineering design. Before my arrival at the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab, there was an incident where the linkages in the laser cutter were damaged.

A critical component of my role as a SOLIDWORKS EDU intern here at DASSAULT SYSTEMES is my involvement within the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab, a Fab Lab spread across about 1900sq ft. I am one of the two interns who are tasked with being mentors and overseers of the Waltham Fab Lab, as we call it. As a vital node in the Fab Foundation network of Labs, our Fab Lab was established in May 2017 with the objective of acting as a creative space for DASSAULT SYSTEMES employees, local startups, and makers. It is

When my co-worker Robert approached me with the idea of using our lab’s collaborative robot to hold a camera in order to achieve dramatic cinematographic shots, I was instantly committed to the project. One of the more interesting pieces of equipment which we have at the Waltham campus 3DEXPERIENCE Lab is our Universal Robotics UR-10 Collaborative Robot. The UR-10 as well as other competing collaborative robots, or co-bot for short, are intended to be used in place of industrial robots in

Being an intern at Dassault Systemes 3DEXPERIENCE Lab, I get many opportunities to test my design skills. For example, the IT Department at our Waltham office requested an improved cardboard box for shipping phones and other small items to employees who are working in other locations or traveling. The IT Department wanted to replace the boxes they were previously purchasing because of their cost and lack of durability. Having used SOLIDWORKS Sheet Metal to design a variety of automotive and HVAC

The best part about being an intern at the 3DEXPIERENCE Lab? Being able to rapidly prototype almost anything and use new products like the 3DEXPERIENCE platform! Recently I purchased a new (to me) car. One of the many considerations I made in buying this car was its aptitude for being used in harsh winter weather;

There’s a small white building with a teal tin roof perched at the end of the world and it houses Fab Lab Austral. Located in Puerto Williams, Chile, Fab Lab Austral is the southernmost digital fabrication laboratory (or Fab Lab) on the globe, and one of the most remote. Head south from its windswept front door and the next piece of land you’ll see is Antarctica. But it’s not alone.

2018 SOLIDWORKS Interns Design Challenge 2018 SOLIDWORKS Interns Design Challenge Interns at the SOLIDWORKS office in Woodland Hills, CA, were tasked with a carnival themed design challenge that really got the ball rolling. The classic carnival game, Roller Bowler, was the inspiration for the challenge: create a device that consistently won the game, landing a ball between the two humps at the end of the Roller Bowler without letting the ball roll back. Two intern teams assembled. Roy, a

SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids introduces children from ages 4 to 14 to the excitement of imagining and designing their own creations. A collection of apps breaks down the design process into bite-sized tools to create, style, design, and engineer a concept and then present and share it with others. Our blog will share fun quick projects children can create and print on their own 2D printer at home or if they have access to a 3D printer. But how do you start creating?

SOLIDWORKS Dana Hall Career Day 8th Graders from Dana Hall When most of us were kids, Career Day meant impatiently jiggling our legs under our desks, while Tommy Y.’s dad droned on about selling insurance, only to be followed by Laura V.’s mom trying to get us amped up on accounting. On January 12, the 8th grade class at Dana Hall had an entirely different experience. They had, you might say, a 3DEXPERIENCE. Organized and led by User Experience Design Senior Manager Chinloo Lama, the group of
