DESIGN I designed the clock in SOLIDWORKS and took advantage of exploded views so I could see how pieces would line up. This was important for this project because The clock needs to be easily opened up for occasional battery replacement. CUT I cut out the pieces out of walnut on the shop bot (CNC router) that we have in the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab. My design is pretty simple for the CNC so I was able to cut all the pieces using vector files that I exported from SOLIDWORKS.

I love the look of stained glass and wanted to make something that would have a similar aesthetic. I made this lantern using wood, clear acrylic, and a disco light! Design I designed my final assembly in SOLIDWORKS to make sure that all of my pieces would fit together perfectly. I chose to make my pieces symmetrical because I think it offers simplicity to an otherwise ornate design and it will greatly facilitate the assembly process.

As we look to 2021, I know students will learn and be inspired from great educators and engineers to solve problems for our future. Civil Engineer, Gustave Eiffel created the global icon that continues to inspire us. What if Mr. Eiffel used the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to collaborate with his team of engineers? Engineering students today utilize tools like SOLIDWORKS to learn from the past and inspire our future.
