The Alexandria SOLIDWORKS User Group has completed the first major SWUGN event of the 2024. Nearly 100 people took part in a full-day event that that included technical presentations, networking, and giveaways. They were even able to incorporate their culture, further connecting their members. Leader of this group, Mohamed Hussein, wrote a beautiful recap of this event with lots of great pictures.
It’s a cold, overcast day in New England, and a small crowd is assembled in an open field, eagerly anticipating the launch of a model rocket called the “Eggcubator.” The rocket is loaded on the launch rod, and the ignition clips are connected. This tutorial was inspired by mine and my husband’s love of Paris, and of course macarons! So, I decided to use the 3DEXPERIENCE platform’s xShape app to design and model a macaron. The model was then exported as a STEP file and imported into SOLIDWORKS for further editing. To get myself into the festive mood, I decided to model some treats for Santa, and in the process, demonstrate some uses for the thread, intersect and sweep features. This tutorial is inspired by my newborn son River. I wanted to design something I would love to be able to buy and pop into his bedroom. So, I designed this river themed turtle projector with river themed wildlife and water symbols cut out of the turtle’s shell. I used this as a vessel to showcase animating light colors and environments, and animating parts within the model to create the moving projector.

For this tutorial, I designed a s’mores themed wooden toy. In this tutorial I will feature some of the tools I used to create the 3 parts of the s’more; the cracker, chocolate bar and marshmallow. At the end of the tutorial, you’ll see a snippet of SOLIDWORKS Visualize where I used keyframes and the decals opacity to give the illusion that the marshmallow is being toasted by the fire.
