Industrial designer, Jason Pohl and his new partner, son, Maxton – 8 years old, gets a chance to sit in dad’s chair and explore SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids. SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids is a collection of web-based apps that are fun for kids to learn about design and 3D printing. Kids can create anything with their imagination. Maxton used Shape-It app to create his 3D model by starting with a blob of digital clay and pushing and pulling on faces.

These days, it’s not enough to just tell children that STEAM topics are important—you have to show how science, technology, engineering, art, and math can all interconnect to create something fun. “It shouldn’t be a chore,” says STEAM advocate and founder of The STEAM Connection Danielle Boyer. “It should be really exciting.” Over the summer, Danielle created the Engineering Design Club in her hometown of Troy, Michigan, and used SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids to make learning STEAM more enjoyable.

PART ONE: Bridge Lesson Michael Steeves had a simple desire: get involved with his local community. His eldest daughter just started kindergarten, and he wanted a way to connect with her and other kids. His daughter’s elementary school had an after school enrichment program packed with activities, all sorts of sports, dance classes, music lessons, art, tech classes where students learned how to use programming through Scratch. But there was nothing that taught 3D design.
