PART ONE: Bridge Lesson Michael Steeves had a simple desire: get involved with his local community. His eldest daughter just started kindergarten, and he wanted a way to connect with her and other kids. His daughter’s elementary school had an after school enrichment program packed with activities, all sorts of sports, dance classes, music lessons, art, tech classes where students learned how to use programming through Scratch. But there was nothing that taught 3D design.

On a sunny day in June, students at The Meadowbrook School in Weston, MA, were treated to a fun and exciting crash course in 3D modeling. SOLIDWORKS intern Lucas Saden taught two classes of 6th graders how to use the SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids Classroom interface to create keychains with their initials. I joined him as a teaching assistant. Classroom is an interface in Apps for Kids where educators can organize private, self-contained classes.
