What do you picture when I say “starting a movement?” Do you picture angry mobs of people walking down a city street or outside of a City Hall? Or perhaps you think of a large basement full of people speaking their minds? Or perhaps you visualize the old Frankenstein movie with the angry mob heading to Dr. Frankenstein’s home?

As of January 1, 2019, we have changed our re-take policy on all our customer-facing and academic certification exams. The Certified SOLIDWORKS Expert (CSWE) which is considered to be the most challenging exam we offer has now been changed from 180 days, to just 90 days! All other exams that had a 30-day waiting policy, such as the CSWA, has been changed to 14 days and now coincides with the same retake policy as the CSWP exam segments. The CSWP exam segments 1, 2, and 3 were already set to 14

Life is full of natural opposites: salt and sugar, darkness and light, McClaren and Ferrari. One of their commonalities is that if you strengthen one, you weaken the other. This is an age-old paradox in mechanical engineering as well. You might, for example, want to minimize the mass of a design, but you also want to maintain a certain level of stress.

A while ago, I had the honor to be part of something special. It was the launch of a project I have been supporting for a few years, which will be hopefully the start of the largest Ocean cleanup in history: #theoceancleanup. Image source: The Ocean Cleanup I am rooted in the Seas and Oceans Ever since I was a little boy, like my dad and my grandpa before, I liked spending my time on the beaches of the North Sea. Now, as a father of three, I am taking my family to the Netherlands every year (I

If you are an engineer working at a small or mid-sized company, there’s a good chance that you might be working without a product data management (PDM) system in place. Many believe that implementing a data management solution would be time-consuming and just add additional work to the current ways of doing things. There is also the misconception that PDM is too expensive to implement. The reality, however, is quite the opposite.

How would one design products for those who are still learning and refining their motor skills? Monique Filer and Danielle Michaels reimagined every baby product they could think of with SOLIDWORKS On a flight to New Zealand, Dannielle Michaels found changing her newborn’s diaper to be what she describes as “mission

Model-Based Definition (MBD) is a journey. Defining product and manufacturing information (PMI) on 3D models rather than 2D drawings is just a start. After that, it’s vital to serve the downstream processes such as inspection, fabrication, and suppliers, in an organized, consumable and actionable fashion. Regardless of MBD or 2D drawings, the functional purpose is to communicate.

Collaborating with my wife on this project to defeat the squirrels will be fun. Tracy is a Mac user, and I like using my iPad as much as possible because of its portability and the cool apps so this will test the true cloud capability of xDesign. I feel confident we’ll be able to collaborate and come up with a cool design that not only keeps the squirrels away from the bird feeders but will look really cool on our deck. There are a couple of design requirements I have in mind for the new bird
