Solidworks cam won't pick correct end mill size for counterbobore. I have a .125 thru hole and .188 c'bore. It seems like no matter the actual size of the c'bore it always pick .25 dia. endmil.?

I am an instructor trying to integrate Solidworks CAM into my student-shop "workflow". We have several inexpensive, benchtop, CNC, imported mills. They're beefier than a Shapeoko, by far, but still pretty flexible. The axes are driven by steppers with a TinyG controller.

No, I haven't found one. Then again I haven't really been looking. I easily found a number of good posts for Fusion and got a subscription during a promotion (really just for programming the plasma table) and it's been working well (I still prefer SW for modeling etc). I would like to start using CAM in SW for this so I could skip the whole process of getting a DXF in to Fusion.

I would like to use Solidworks CAM instead of solidCAM but the post processor I use in solidCAM (VM20i.gpp) wont work with Solidworks CAM which seems to only use .ctl extension is there a way round this or a post processor that will match the VM20i.gpp. Dave, there is no way around the .ctl file. That is what SWCAM uses.

Congratulations, you made it to the end of another year! In just a few short weeks we will all have to learn how to write a nine over the top of everything we date as 2018. When I was a kid my grandpa used to tell me, “Every year will go a little faster as you get older.” At the time I thought he was trying to be funny.

I have a simple mill which does not have a tool changer, and I need to manually change tools in order to machine some smaller features after the bulk metal removal is complete. What's the best way to do this in Solidworks CAM? I thought the thing to do is add a second Set-up.

My company recently acquired aStepoko CNC Machinefrom Sparkfun. We are looking to utilize SolidWorks new CAM feature with the machine for some in-house prototyping. The Stepoko board runs on Grbl v1.1, so I need a post-processor that will output to a format like that. None of the standard machine profiles included with SolidWorks seem to work.

I created a small test piece for my 2.5D router - just the number 1 and 2. I got through all stages, and the toolpath simulation did exactly what I hoped. However, the Gcode creates these huge loops that exceed the limits of my machine. Any ideas where I have screwed up?

We've been using HSMXpress with SW 2016 for several years here, but all of a sudden our CNC computer stopped showing the tool path previews (the blue, green and yellow lines in the screen shot) for a selected operation, and this has happened on only our CNC computer, everyone else has it working as shown in the screen shot. It shows it during simulation just fine, but outside of simulation it only shows the entry and exit points as well as toolpath points when that's enabled (under view>toolpath

I've been trying to make this part and mill it out using SolidCAM but am having a hard time setting a tool path for the mill. I'm pretty new to SolidCAM (and CNC tooling in general), so any help would be greatly appreciated! Dawson, I have not used SolidCAM before but in lieu of tech support which would be my first recommendation (I understand a lot of companies simply don't keep up the "maintenance" side of things and don't have tech support available, we are one of them) I'd recommend hitting

Does anyone here know how I can upload models from lathe tooling vendors to simulate on SW Cam Pro?. We have a couple ways of using vendor tooling and custom holders, inserts.

Does anyone know a way to export Tech DB info to some usable format? I would like to keep a log of the tools and setups created that is accessible at the machine(s). The computer with Solidworks that I design and generate the code is a good clip from where the machine shop is, and I can't find anyway to access the Tech DB info without being able to open up Solidworks. Am I wrong in thinking that this is just simple database info?

When you enter values for various items like depth of cut etc, I only get 2 decimal places when in inch units. This seems very course to me. Is there any way to add extra decimal places in CAM? It does not seem to honor the document properties and I find no settings in CAM Options.

I'm a user of PowerMill, and I'm trying to use SolidWorks CAM. SolidWorks CAM has different concep with PowerMill, so I'm little bit confused. I tried to make finishing tool-paths for the smooth curved surfaces, but I didn't know how to do.

It’s finally here! SOLIDWORKS 2019 is out and available for download. If you haven’t had a chance to attend a Reseller rollout head over to our what’s new page on the SOLIDWORKS website. The 2019 release has lots of significant improvements to SOLIDWORKS CAM Standard and Professional, but we are also adding some new features this year in some of the service packs.

In the bottom finish settings you have a side wall offset of .05. This is causing the issue of not finishing the side wall. Please change this to zero and let me know if the toolpath updates and finishes the side wall.

Re: 2019 Cam - finishing end mill will not finish sides of pocket Bob, we don't use the built in SW Cam but we do run CAM Works which is what the SW Cam is supposed to be based off of. The first thing that comes to mind would be to verify that the settings have been zeroed out on the Finishing Tool (Contour Mill) under Contour/Settings/Side Parameters.

I'm using SW2018 with the SOLIDWORKS CAM add-in, and I'm struggling to get the correct operations at the edge of the piece. I'm working with 2x1 box tubing, and am attempting to cut an angle at one end. If I have the piece set up in this way, no machinable feature shows up, and if I add in my own, for instance a slot corresponding to the sketch the cut is made from, it mills starting with a plunge, instead of from the edge:

At SolidSolutions we run training courses for a large variety of manufacturing solutions such as SolidCAM, SWOOD and SigmaNEST alongside the newly introduced SOLIDWORKS CAM. To help make our training courses easier to understand and more relatable to real life working situations we have purchased a 5 axis milling machine to demonstrate the outputs from these programs in action. Not only is this machine versatile in its output, it is also quiet and portable, making it suitable for demonstrations.
