I recently took a trip to visit some of the schools I work in Montana to discuss their STEM Program. One of the schools I visited called Billings Career Center, a Career, and Technical education-focused school, had an exciting project they worked on with NASA using our STEM in a BOX program. The teacher and his students designed parts in SOLIDWORKS, then 3D printed prototypes, and machined the final versions. They then sent the finished versions to NASA.

SOLIDWORKS Dana Hall Career Day 8th Graders from Dana Hall When most of us were kids, Career Day meant impatiently jiggling our legs under our desks, while Tommy Y.’s dad droned on about selling insurance, only to be followed by Laura V.’s mom trying to get us amped up on accounting. On January 12, the 8th grade class at Dana Hall had an entirely different experience. They had, you might say, a 3DEXPERIENCE. Organized and led by User Experience Design Senior Manager Chinloo Lama, the group of

“I love to be able to take a person’s dream and write it down in pictures for them to see. With SOLIDWORKS they can see all aspects of their design and have a video to show how to use it. I have learned so much about the versatility and the expansive ability in creating all sorts of models in SOLIDWORKS. It truly is an amazing program.

“Simple things seem to derive the most pleasure from everyone” – Corporal Willy Corporal Willy with a Epilog 120 Watt Laser The very first time we tried doing a 3D carving, we took just two pieces of scrap wood and glued them together. I looked for two pieces that were not cracked or had any knots or other irregular surface features to them. However, as the machine finished the carving, a knot showed up right at the end of the Wolf’s nose. Rob made this one on a laser machine for a friend’s

Fettuccine Pasta Bridge Richard first came up with the idea of constructing a bridge using fettuccine pasta, while pushing a shopping cart alongside his wife, Carmy, at a supermarket. As Carla stopped in the aisle stacked with a variety of pastas, Richard carefully observed the different types of pastas, appreciating the uniformity inside of the packaging. He recalls thinking, “To try and make something like that would be very difficult to say the least. I could not wait to get SOLIDWORKS up and
