When designing a new product the best way to get an idea how it will look or feel like in the real world is to produce a prototype. A few years back this would be done in a workshop or outsourced outside of the company. This takes time and can create risk of your early designs and prototypes getting in the wrong hands. But now there is a few choices of 3D printing technology to allow to create your prototypes rapidly and some can be done in house which can save a lot of time.

With SOLIDWORKS Simulation it is possible to test your design during the engineering phase of your project. It’s a powerful tool to provide you direct answers to difficult engineering questions. And to get the right answers, it is important that you interpret the results of your Simulation study in the correct way. But sometimes a high stress value at a certain location is difficult to clarify.

Hello SOLIDWORKS community and welcome back for part two of this three part series involving Pinewood Derby racing. In this video we will be performing some virtual Pinewood Derby races using our various designs to see which one will be the fastest. If we’ve done a good job we should be able to beat our control car. I hope you enjoy watching the results that we found, and will continue watching in part three of this SOLIDWORKS series.

SOLIDWORKS xDesign Fridays with the Product Definition Team It’s July, and the thermometer has been flirting with +90° temps for the past week here in Waltham. The office environment at SOLIDWORKS is relaxed, which is ideal on hot and humid New England days. When I say relaxed, what I truly mean is you see few suits and ties. Well, one “anonymous” employee typically will wear a suit and a few executives will wear a jacket.

The Evolution of Online Shopping It wasn’t long ago that the idea of purchasing products online was a scary, if not completely foreign concept to most of us. If you planned on making any type of specialty purchase, it started with checking the yellow pages or asking a friendly neighbor for a recommendation for a local shop, and then heading out for a scavenger hunt to attempt to become a more knowledgeable consumer. What used to be near impossible for the consumer to acquire GOOD information and

SOLIDWORKS Electrical Tech Tip Written by: Cheri Guntzviller-Miesen, Electrical Application Specialist, DASI Solutions Ever want to put a Watermark on your Electrical prints? How about a rubber stamp for Proprietary, As Built, Final Build to show only when you are ready to release drawings? This can easily be attained inside of SOLIDWORKS Electrical Schematic with just a slight adjustment to the Titleblocks. To accomplish this, a layer needs to be created for each rubber stamp or watermark that

Hello SOLIDWORKS community and welcome to this three part video series where we will talk about the awesome world of Pinewood Derby racing. This was the first year that my son and I were able to experience the Pinewood Derby together, so like any good engineer dad I thought that we should go overboard in how we prepared for the project. We will see what I thought to be a good design after doing a lot of research on the topic, and then analyze the design in a virtual wind tunnel. After that we

In this blog, we’ll take a look at some of the new PDM features and enhancements for SOLIDWORKS 2018. PDM Standard The first major change which occurs in 2018 is a change to the PDM naming scheme and support. From SOLIDWORKS 2018 onward, Workgroup PDM is no longer supported and has been replaced by SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard. This means that if you are currently using SOLIDWORKS 2017 (or earlier) with Workgroup PDM and want to upgrade to SOLIDWORKS 2018, you will also have to upgrade (or migrate)

Introduction to Composites A composite material is a mixture of two or more materials. This is usually a stiff unidirectional fiber combined with a softer matrix element. The goal of such a mixture is to get desirable overall properties that each individual material could not provide. Composites usually exhibit good strength to weight ratio and is used primarily in the Aerospace and Biomedical applications or sporting goods like tennis racquets.

Plastic parts are now commonplace in consumer product design, and for good reason. Highly durable, endless color options and of course, an inexpensive option when manufactured in high volumes. For the engineering and design team at URB-E, it was a no brainier to utilize plastic components for the fenders and battery hub in order to ramp up its production. But does this mean you have to be an expert in plastics parts to be able to design one in SOLIDWORKS?

We’ve successfully reworked Wade Wilsons head to be a sharp tool holder. In this final part of the series let’s add a few final details to the top of the head, and we’ll use the Boundary Cut tool to hollow out the bottom of the bust to save on material while 3D printing. Check out part one, part two, or part three of this series if you missed them!

Verschiedene Ingenieure arbeiten unterschiedlich.
