So I'm Trying to design an air inlet. I created tapered extrusions to link the inner surface (a revolution) and the outer surface (a loft). What I'm trying to do it do a cut loft that will remove the excess material from the outer part of my piece. I'm trying to remove the triangles outside of the outer piece.

This challenge could possibly be the simplest ever, since this topic has been debated before on this forum, so a solution might already be available. A video describing this challenge has been attached to this post and can also be found here:SWPUC 21 Challenge: How to Model the Most Accurate Barrel Cam - YouTube

I am having a heck of a time creating a shell or swept cut for this piece, I have tried for hours, and have gained no progress could anyone lend a hand? The thickness is 3.25 mm. You can't shell the main part like you want because as the error message states some of your current curves are already smaller than that as a radii.

First post on here, hope you can help. Am currently working through my first project where I'm trying to use bona fide master modelling from the word go. It seems all good and I'm very happy with the methodology, but I'm running into problems now I'm trying to take parts out into their individual files to do detailing, assembly models etc.

It appears this subject has been beaten to death in here and I've read a good portion of the posts on the subject. I will probably have to go to the IT department on this issue so I'm looking for the answers to a few other questions I know I will be asked. First is there anything I should be looking at to make sure we aren't artificially running these numbers up.

I have a rather large multibody part file that I am trying to set materials for. Last night working at home, I was able to set 4 of the bodies' materials to aluminum early on in the modelling process. Now that there are 16 bodies, the material option for bodies is not available in the right-click menu (see attached) on either my home computer or the one in the shop. The 4 original bodies are still set as aluminum, but I cannot change/remove this or add materials to the other bodies.

Example: I have an aluminum hollow tube with some OD and ID (both are custom properties). I want to round these values to 2 decimal points and then concatenate them. So if OD was .543 and ID was .194, I would get a result of .54x.19. I have gotten thus far by doing the following:

I have a part that has misbehaving cosmetic threads. I run into this on occasion. Usually a series of control-q's and/or feature rebuilds fixes it. However, this one is just being stubborn.

Hi Adam- One method that works good for me is to model the full "cut", size and path, into one solid body. Then in an assembly file, locate the "cut" solid precisely to the model to be cut and use the Cavity Feature to complete the process.

This challenge is encountered by many of us every day, when trying to save time by mirroring parts or even assemblies. If the components have labels attached, either as text or as sketches, the text geometry gets mirrored too. - post a solution that meets the requirements above using only SOLIDWORKS functionality

I would like to create a feature that seems simple enough from a machining perspective but I can't figure out how to model it in SW. I want to create a radial slot in the surface of a cylinder wall. To machine this feature, I would mount the cylinder on the 4th axis so the end mill is aligned with the radius of the cylindar. The cut would start with plunging the end mill through the cylinder wall and then rotating the cylinder about its axis while moving the end mill axially to create a pattern.

I'm making a rod height adjustment knob, the rod has a round profile at the end and inserted into the adjustment knob, when the knob is rotated the rod will ride up and down the cut out profile. I Need help with creating a cut feature on a cylindrical part where a round/ball endmill moves in and out at various depths as the part is rotated. I created a sketch and projected on the surface but can't seem to get a cut feature that rotate along the radius and varying depth.

Editing Material Library Default Appearances So I'm starting to create a custom materials library for my company. I decided to take a risk, do the premium membership on matweb and download a bunch of materials (things we often use at our company that are not exactly listed in the default SW materials).

Has anyone else experienced all of the holes from a single standard and type changing to a single size in models? I'm not certain if it is because of the functionality in SW 2018 or something in the hole wizard database because it seems to have started when I created a number of new threads in the Hole Wizard/Toolbox. I had thought it was only for ANSI Inch standard threaded holes reverting to a 1 3/4"-8 NC if I edited the hole feature but now I'm finding all ANSI Metric thread holes are

But something strange is happening when these files are revised and checked out of PDM. The "Revision" property has been updated but the linked text on the engraved part won't update. It stays at the old rev and no matter how many times I "regen" it.
