In the SOLIDWORKS community, we are fortunate to meet talented innovators that are making a difference in people’s lives. Many volunteer their time with organizations that do good for others. Last month, I was fortunate to learn about Remap.org.uk that designs and builds equipment to help people live more independently. My friend Sam Cullen from our VAR Solid Solutions UK introduced me to one such innovator, Henry Kirby.

Lemelson-MIT EurekaFest Lemelson-MIT EurekaFest SOLIDWORKS had the pleasure of attending Lemelson-MIT’s EurekaFest, where fifteen teams of high school students, educators, and mentors presented their incredible inventions. Watching the WPI FSAE team during Tilt Test at FORMULA Michigan makes you hold your breath and celebrate the accomplishments of so many young engineers. The SOLIDWORKS team visits with 1000’s of students this time of year at SAE Collegiate Events, Maker Faire’s, Robotics competitions, graduations and more. It is great to see so many wonderful designs and the products students create for senior capstone projects, the middle school science fairs, and Solar Car teams like CalSol from UC Berkeley.

Jonah, the Monster Jam(m)er. Jonah, the Monster Jam(m)er. For the past few weeks, members of the R&D department at SOLIDWORKS have been pouring over monster truck designs. They’re now cozy with the designs and dimensions of some of the regulars at Monster Jam, a massive event where monster trucks compete in races and perform freestyle stunts.

The island nation of Malta has a rich history and culture. It’s capital, Valletta is a European Art City and a World Heritage City. Fab Lab Valletta brings together education and entrepreneurship for a community of designers and makers. When the SOLIDWORKS team was introduced to the Magic Wheelchair organization at Maker Faire, we found our new design-make project! Magic Wheelchair builds epic costumes for kiddos in wheelchairs at no cost to families.
