! Library feature is empty
SOLIDWORKS Forums

I have been working my way through my Weldments tutorial and after editing a piece of 2x2 angle .SLDLFP to make a 2x3 angle and saving it in my newly created folder as a 2x3 angle.SLDLFP I then navigate my way through the "insert structural member" command and find my newly created library feature.

However after selecting the sketch entities that I want to define the structural member and selecting OK I get the screen report "!library feature is empty"

As a check I open my new library feature and for reference open the original 2x2 angle library feature. They look the same (except for my update).

Anyone any idea what may be wrong?

I am using Vista on this computer

Thanks in anticipation
Cameron

! Library feature is empty
Okay, I've worked out the cause of my problem.

I have two folders, with the same name, in seperate places on my C drive, one of which is a working directory, the other as part of a set of library files shuffled between my laptop and a workstation at a place I'm contacting. I had both listed as file locations in options>files, but was only updating one library feature file. SolidWorks was working from the other folder, naturally...

Your suggestion solved my problem. Thank you also for your very quick response, sorry so long in getting back

Re: ! Library feature is empty

i had a similar problem. this would happen when i imported a sketch.

1) after you make the sketch for the part and hit the check mark. (close sketch). save as .sldlfp .

2) right click on the sketch name in the column on the left . select add to library

3) save again and move to the proper directory for solidworks to find it.

this worked for me..... good luck.

Here are two articles on Weldment profiles if anyone is interested to know more on them:

Re: ! Library feature is empty

thanks but i have it figured out.  i had no problem making a profile from scratch. its when i imported an autocad file. it would open the file as a sketch in a new part and i would save it as a .sldlfp but solidworks couldnt use it and said it was empty. the trick was to right click on the sketch and add to the library. i am unclear exactly what this does but apparently it made all the diffference. not when i save it i can use it as a weldment profile.  hope this helps anyone in a similar bind.

Re: ! Library feature is empty

When you saving the sketch as .sldlfp, just make sure that sketch has been selected before the save operation.

Re: ! Library feature is empty

I know this topic is old, but how google points it I will left here a solution to everyone else who have the same problem.

I don´t know if it happens to everyone, but with me it always happened. The solution to this problem is to click on References on "Save as" window and make sure that the path pointed isnt empty or wrong.

Once youve made that you wont have problem to use your profiles.

Re: ! Library feature is empty

I did what Konner said and right clicked on the sketch. Adding it to the library solved the problem. Just having the path correct doesn't seem to correct the issue.

Re: ! Library feature is empty

thanks guys for answering these issues, just had the same problem and of course I was just not clicking on it before I saved!

Re: ! Library feature is empty

I SOMETIMES get the "Library feature is empty" message when using a new weldment profile, but I have not figured out why. But using the "Add to Library" always solves it for me too.

Re: ! Library feature is empty

Hey my fellow Designers, this is the actual solution before saving you have to right click on the sketch and put save to library then it will appear with a little L and then you good to use it for a structural member
