Re: Add note to a balloon

Select both, right-click, choose "Group".

Balloon and note must both "belong" to the same view.  If "Group" does not appear, they are not in the same view.  Right-click the one that does not belong to the view and choose "Attachment->Attach to View"

Select both the note and balloon, right click and select "Group"

Re: Add note to a balloon

I also used the quantity option in the balloon and change to user-defined and type the desired text.

Re: Add note to a balloon

This is the exact method we use at work.

This secures the note to stick with the ballon, which can be an advantage in some cases

Thanks, but I think you meant to mark Deepak's reply correct, not mine.

Re: Add note to a balloon

Only draw back with this method is that you can not link to a property. So that is needed I go with what Josh has suggested

Re: Add note to a balloon

I submitted ER 1-19109065785 a month ago to "Add text window to Balloon so manual notes can be added above, below, left, right." just like dimensions have. I hate grouping a note to a balloon because some changes make the note move away from the balloon, forcing me to ungroup, move it back, and regroup.
I think SW combined my ER with SPR 1112381

An alternative method is to add an annotation with a leader attached to the part, right next to the balloon, add all the text you want then click on the balloon while editing the text. It'll insert the balloon into the annotation. Then you can delete the balloon. This method isn't as smart as the other options listed. For instance, if you copy the annotation and attach the leader to another part, it won't update to the new part like Josh Brady's or Deepak Gupta's methods.

I have used this method when I have a detailed statement about assembling something. I'll have something that says something like, "attach part xxx to yyy before assembling parts zzz and vvv." where those numbers are linked back to the BOM. That way if the BOM gets changed my note updates accordingly.

Also, you can't delete the balloon.  You have to move it off the printable area of the sheet.

Try the macro here:

Quantity and Balloons in SolidWorks 2010 ~ SolidWorks Legion

I think this one will at least fix the positioning with like 1 click instead of ungroup and regroup.

Here's a slightly different version that I couldn't find the original thread for.

Josh Brady,

Thanks for the clarification on that.  It's been a while since I did it and did not remember it worked that way.
