Hi everyone. I have been using draftisght for about a year now and recently started having a problem with editing text boxes. When I double click on a textbox to edit the text draftisight auto zooms in on the textbox. Then when I click outside the textbox it auto zooms back out. It only happens on some text boxes and not all of them. Does anyone know how to turn this annoying feature off in draftisght? Thanks.

Re: Turn off automatic zooming when editing text in draftsight

Hello Everyone,

Has anyone found an answer to disabling this extremely annoying feature?

Thank you.

Re: Turn off automatic zooming when editing text in draftsight

Hello,

Which entity is meant by "textbox"?

If it's one of these, I don't get the zooming (DS2017):

Re: Turn off automatic zooming when editing text in draftsight

Hello again,

Kevin, to answer you question, The annoying zooming feature happens with both a simplenote or a note. using the commands editannotation or editnote (depending on the type of text box it is). Simply when I double click on any item to edit it, I already have my view where I want to be and I don't need or want the software to change that.

I am using DS2018 SP2.1

Again any help in turning off this feature is greatly appreciated.

Re: Turn off automatic zooming when editing text in draftsight

Hello,

I upgraded to DS2018 sp1 and I couldn't replicate your OP nor could I locate any plausible option for this behavior.

Probably give DS a try: Draftsight Support

Even if you're on the freebie, you may still get your issue remedied.

Sorry I wasn't any help,

Re: Turn off automatic zooming when editing text in draftsight

Thank you Kevin,

Just the fact that you couldn't replicate is give's me hope that is an option somewhere. I will be sure to write DS support and i'll post the answer here when I find it.

Thank again for looking into this.

So here is a crap recording of what happens if you double click on a text. Is there anyway to stop this zooming function? Thank you for your help.Screen.gif

This may be a graphics card issue.

Have you tried a vid card driver update since?

Did this start w/a vid driver update?

I just checked my system and mine does not do what your does. I have not found anything in the options to make this behavior yet but will keep looking. I am on DS2018 SP1.

Re: Turn off automatic zooming when editing text in draftsight

Good Morning Kevin,

I'm sure it's not a driver or hardware issues as it does this on my laptop as well.

how ever I did have a thought this morning that maybe it's the text boxes from AutoCAD and after a little testing, Yes it's only the text boxes that are created in AutoCAD and then opened in Draftsight that do this. Great I found the problem but now I have to rebuild all my blocks and templates. Take the good with the bad I guess. lol

Thank you for all your time and help,

Joe

Re: Turn off automatic zooming when editing text in draftsight

Good Morning Jeremy,

I found the cause of this issue. Text boxes that are created in AutoCAD and then opened in DraftSight do this zooming function. However a text box created in DraftSight does not preform this annoying zooming function.

Good luck,

Joe

Re: Turn off automatic zooming when editing text in draftsight

Ok Jeremy. That is good to know. What happens if you explode the text from ACAD when opening from DS? Does it still happen?

Re: Turn off automatic zooming when editing text in draftsight

Hi Danny,

I tried to explode the text but there was no change in the zooming function. So far the only fix I have found is to delete the text box and re-create it in DraftSight. I have a ton of work ahead of me in re-creating my blocks and templates. Believe me I wish there was a way I could select all text on a page and convert it all at once.

I will try some more ideas on my end when I get some free time.

Joe

Ctrl+A to select all. Then at the top of the properties pane, drop down the list and select the entity type you wish to operate on.

Another thought is to try a DXFOUT on just the text entities and then bring them straight back in as a block and explode the block.

Perhaps the DXF conversion will remedy the situation while reducing the recreate time.

Dunno, haven't tried, but pick a piece of text and DXF it out (you don't need to DXF everything). and bring it back in to see if it improves.

Re: Turn off automatic zooming when editing text in draftsight

Hey guys. Just wanted to thank everyone for their help in this matter. Especially Joe and Kevin. I have tried the ideas you have suggested and it has not solved the problem for me yet either. I recently uninstalled draftsight and deleted all the remaining files and hidden folders on my machine. After I re-installed it still had the same problem. What's weird about the problem was that it was isolated to only one drawing I had made and not any of my others. Only when I copied a text box from the affected drawing to another drawing would it do the zooming, but still only on the copied text box and not on all text boxes. After upgrading draftisght it now does it on all text boxes. Even on a newly created file. I will try and install on my home machine and see if it doe the same thing. If it does draftsight must have made this a new integrated feature or the problem is deeper than we all thought. I am using the latest version of draftisght on my work machine. 2018 SP3 v18.3.0105

Re: Turn off automatic zooming when editing text in draftsight

Hi Jeremy,

One quick question. Was the original text box that you copied created in AutoCAD and then you copied it into DraftSight? What I think I have found is that if I copy a text box from a drawing originally crated in ACAD and paste it into a new drawing i'm working on in DS, I get the zooming issue. But if I create a text box in DS it works fine (no zooming). Meaning I can have two text boxes side by side, one is copied from a drawing I did in ACAD and the other text box created in DS. Only the copied text box will do the zooming. Give it a try and let me know, i'm curious if i'm on the right track.

Thanks,

Joe

Re: Turn off automatic zooming when editing text in draftsight

Unfortunately not. As far as I am aware I have never copied a textbox from an autocad drawing into any of my drawings. I tried doing a new blank drawing just using the draftsight default templates and it still zooms in even on those textboxes. I'm wondering if the migration process that imports all the settings and stuff from a previous version when you upgrade draftisght is the culprit. Cause it only got worse after I upgraded a couple of weeks ago.

Re: Turn off automatic zooming when editing text in draftsight

Hey guys just wanted to let you know I finally got around to installing the newest version of draftsight at home. The zooming still happens. I'm pretty sure they made this an integrated feature now. This stinks. I hate this feature. The newest version of draftisght I also found out now broke my custom paper sizes and custom margins. It won't keep them saved. It resets every time the program shuts down. Why can't they make an update that doesn't break the program every time. I guess from here I'll just e-mail draftisght directly and report these new bugs and annoying feature. Thanks.

Re: Turn off automatic zooming when editing text in draftsight

Found the fix.

Ive found that this is a new feature in Draftsight 2018.

My fix was to load draftsight 2016 complete with the patch/hotfix that stopped 2016 working after March 2017.

2016 dosnt have this feature.

Re: Turn off automatic zooming when editing text in draftsight

Hi Jeremy, I updated to 2018 SP3 and inherited this PITA 'feature' as well! I called Draftsight support and they had no clue. After messing around a bit I found the fix. Just double click the text box and open the contextual menu, goto 'Editor Settings' and check 'Always show WSIWYG'. Also, I found that your drawing zoom level determines when the problem appears if you leave it unchecked.

Does this fix it?
