I have the PDM task "Convert SLDDRW to PDF" set up to run as admin on the server as to avoid check in/permission issues with our users. It is not convenient for a user to make a change to a drawing, then browse or search to the location of the drawing, right click, and run the task. Would it be possible to convert the built in task to a macro button that we could place on a toolbar? Or have a right click menu accessible from the PDM tab in solidworks?

This would allow a user to make a drawing change, save, check in, and convert the updated drawing to a PDF all from the same screen.

Re: Run "Convert slddrw to pdf" from drawing?

Do you need to check-in files into the vault or you just want PDFs?

Hi Artem,

Would you consider to enhance this task, to allow the user to set the dpi setting?

Hi Alin,

Are you talking about these options?

Thanks,
Artem

I would like it to be able to do everything the built-in macro can do. I've been able to snip examples together to write simple scripts in the past, but this is way out of my league.

It's just a lot of hassle to browse to the file every time we make a drawing change.

Re: Run "Convert slddrw to pdf" from drawing?

I will investigate. Basically rewriting of the macro would be quite painful as in PDM task you have a lot of placeholders. And it will be also required to deal with PDM APIs to check-in the PDF files. I will try to find if it is possible to invoke the task which would be ideal in this case.

Hi Alin,

Yes, that's not a problem. I will write an article over the weekend with the detailed description of how to do this.

Thanks,
Artem
