How many times do you see a great thread get trashed or hijacked for various reasons and I'll take the "Stand" and say I'm the worst for doing that..  So when I'm acting stupid tell me to trash it here, get it?? Rants - Cheers - Pet Peeves - or your Aunt Lilly, bring it..  (More then likely the dumbest thread anybody started, but I tried to keep it stupid, stupid) - The Forum Moderators rules still apply, no obscene pics, raunchy language and personal attacks, those will be reported and deleted if not changed...

(edited 9/13/2017 - Added link Request for Forum Etiquette - Added another link 9/21/2017 Forum filtering )

To Quote the Great Rick Becker.....

"When a perfectly valid and good question is asked, the thread gets a lot of great answers and some more questions. Once the questions has been answered to each persons (this includes you and me) satisfaction, we no longer need or want the discussion to continue.
We get the emails notifying us that another (and another and another and another...) post has been made and we get frustrated with the time wasting and we get snarky.

The other thing that seems to happen all too often is a post gets hijacked. The discussion moves off of the initial topic (ONE and TWO...) into many sub topics. Sometimes this happens and the initial question hasn't been totally answered."

Another Great Quote from Dennis Dohogne

"Hey, SWX guys and gals, what if we used THIS post for some of our more fun or tangential comments so we keep the other posts with more serious discussions from getting distracted/off-topic (polluted)?"

How about this from BMX'rerer Todd Blacksher

- In an effort to keep the posts somewhat on topic, and make it easy to pick out the "good information," a couple of us thought it would be a good idea to put in a water cooler. Are you completely confused? It's simple, if there is a thread where we are all helping someone find a solution, and it makes you think of something semi-related, you can say "Head over to "The Kitty Dump"

We need a good quote from Kelef Man to get it started.....

David Matula Just head for the parts house and swap #7 cylinder, the others could be good for another 100K miles.

So what exactly was the situation and what did you do to get that to pop up?

I just opened SW this morning, maybe the other CAD guy here was on my pc since I leave it on at night.

Do you normally have the 2D to 3D toolbar displayed?

From what I understand, convert to extrude is basically a shortcut for using the Selection Manager.

Works the same way, except you have to preselect your sketch elements and you don't have to be inside a sketch to select them.

The Convert to Extrude/Cut tools have been part of the 2D to 3D toolbar for as long as I've known of it. Maybe other user just added the bar to the UI.

I'm a big fan of mouse gestures and the shortcut bar (the 's' key).

For quite a while, I've included the extrusion command (and the extruded cut command) in the sketch menu for one of those, and I go straight to the sketch to an extrusion from a mouse gesture or a key stroke and a click.

I have mine setup exactly the same way.

The icon that Francisco Martínez is referring to is on the 2D to 3D toolbar which, as the name suggests (duh), is used to convert a 2D sketch such as something from ACAD to a 3D model.

I haven't had that as part of my UI for years.

Just turn on all of your toolbars. I'll bet there'll be tons of new things you'll discover!

Of course you'll keep shrinking the space available to create sketches,  models and such.

I prefer a little different workflow you might like.  I have Extrude and Extruded cut as Mouse Gestures.  I select a plane or surface, then activate the command, which immediately opens a sketch on the selected plane.  When I close the sketch (also with a Mouse Gesture) the property manager for the feature is automatically opened.

I'm usually starting my sketches from pre-selecting a face/plane and starting a new sketch from the in-context menu.  Po-tay-to, po-tah-to.

I kinda want to upload a simple example, but... Embarrassingly enough, I haven't used a design table myself in the time since I went from standalone Office to Click-To-Run 365, and also upgraded from 2017 to 2018.  I don't know whether it's SW or Office that's hosed, but if I tell SW to insert a design table it either does absolutely nothing (if I choose "blank" or "auto-create") or gives a "failed to start server application" if I specify a template.  [sigh]  Just did a full repair on Office, time to repair SW I guess.

I changed them out along with the spark plugs, as they died.

First one, around 88000 miles. Then sporadically, up will now.

Buy them from an Ebay seller two at a time. Always have a spare on hand. I'll have to look at who I get them from.

Only use Motorcraft or Visteon. Visteons are getting harder to find.

Buy a 8 pack of spark plugs.

Some of my trucks coils held out much longer than I expected.

I'm at 190k, and still have one original coil pack in the truck. Keeps saying I should just swap it out and be done....

But the engineer in me is curious how much longer this coil is going to last.

MISSING ON 7.  SO I GET  1 3 2 6 5 4 8.  three fires on one side.  No wonder it is rough when it misses.

285k miles on the truck when I got it.  Already changed all the plugs, and some of the coil packs have been changed.  Think I will just try to get one and see how that works.  So far it has been a nice truck for $1k I bought it for.

I never intend on having a car payment again!

I stopped at an auto store called ABC, on the way home and picked up a coil.  Waited till later in the evening and got it changed out.  Running better and the best thing ever was that they gave me a lifetime warranty on the part.  Better than what I saw on line from A-Zone and O_riley.  I may take 8 weeks or longer to get them all changed out now or I could just wait till they are needed.

I try not to go to A-Zone, expensive for sub-standard parts. I'm usually ahead of the curve and can mail-order what I need ahead of time.

Good luck Richard Doyle!

Can you post who the moderators will be in your absence, or do they see it if we ping you or message you?  We had a thread yesterday that started to go a little toward an adversarial direction.  I almost sent a message to you.  And in case it happens next week, it would be good to know who to ping.

I could always find Dad.  Shoot we could here his truck coming down the hwy. from work when we where young.  Then if we were not working with him doing something you could find him in his chair enjoying some TV, or at the dining room table schooling us in cards or dominos.

Here is the issue with all Dads out there (except maybe the stay at home Dads)

Guess what, when the kids come in the house, first place they go to is the Kitchen or somewhere that Mom is known to be most of the time, two seconds in the kitchen "Hey, Mom - Where's Mom at - Anyone see Mom lately, did Mom leave, is Mom outside................................

Dad can be gone for weeks, before the house hears "Where's Dad" - lol

Happy Fathers Day guys

I'll throw in a happy medium: I was 11 at the time. On a related note, I went out and bought a shuttle model kit after they were retired. I still haven't finished it.

It wasn't going together very well, so I may actually scrap it and get another one to try it again.

Rob Edwards I'm still pushing IT to get it installed, if I was doing it, it would've been done already...They shouldn't have stripped my ability to do CAD admin stuff.

HAHAHA. I say that every time now - as the one IT ADMIN here is the only one allowed to do ANY software install. Haven't had one go 100% proper yet - even SP.'s.

Re: The "Kitty Dump" - Watercooler - Trash it Here - Food For Thought - Or Whatever else floats your boat, your Car, Truck, BMX or your Horse ;)

S. Casale The IT guy is controlled by the VP of HR, I think this guy is seriously into head games...I had (before VP) reasonably full admin access to all of the engineering computers, printers, plotter, probably 15 machines total. I never messed anything up in 2.5 years either, then this clown comes along, says its ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) related, and suddenly I can't even install a printer (I think he's full of baloney). I've been telling him for 4 months, when SP3.0 comes out, we need to upgrade-we're still on 2015 SP 5.0! He's like..."oh, we'll need to install it, and then test it before going live..." I'm like "no, we don't, test on the fly!" He dummied up. I'll keep bugging him until he gets sick of listening to me. The only thing he begs my help on so far is PDM Admin, I have the answers to all of his questions, which are many LOL.

Methinks thou dost protest too much.

He hasn't blocked you from here yet, like J.S. was.

Kinda kidding, and no offense intended. It does suck to see mismanagement in process, particularly from someone unfamiliar with the digital nuts and bolts of what we deal with.

Re: The "Kitty Dump" - Watercooler - Trash it Here - Food For Thought - Or Whatever else floats your boat, your Car, Truck, BMX or your Horse ;)

Why do you keep talking to him directly? Talk to his boss, sort this out. I'd be throwing a hell of a tantrum if someone took away my CAD Admin priviledges and didn't know jack shit of what he was doing, especially if he was trying to lecture me.

Re: The "Kitty Dump" - Watercooler - Trash it Here - Food For Thought - Or Whatever else floats your boat, your Car, Truck, BMX or your Horse ;)

Kinda sounds like the situation I am. I am trying everyday not to let it get to me and think on how to be proactive. But the owners are making the CAD decisions like folder structure ( how to place files, folder names, assembly and part folders)and neither of them know how to use solidworks. That is just one example

I hope to improve my situation soon.
