How many times do you see a great thread get trashed or hijacked for various reasons and I'll take the "Stand" and say I'm the worst for doing that..  So when I'm acting stupid tell me to trash it here, get it?? Rants - Cheers - Pet Peeves - or your Aunt Lilly, bring it..  (More then likely the dumbest thread anybody started, but I tried to keep it stupid, stupid) - The Forum Moderators rules still apply, no obscene pics, raunchy language and personal attacks, those will be reported and deleted if not changed...

(edited 9/13/2017 - Added link Request for Forum Etiquette - Added another link 9/21/2017 Forum filtering )

To Quote the Great Rick Becker.....

"When a perfectly valid and good question is asked, the thread gets a lot of great answers and some more questions. Once the questions has been answered to each persons (this includes you and me) satisfaction, we no longer need or want the discussion to continue.
We get the emails notifying us that another (and another and another and another...) post has been made and we get frustrated with the time wasting and we get snarky.

The other thing that seems to happen all too often is a post gets hijacked. The discussion moves off of the initial topic (ONE and TWO...) into many sub topics. Sometimes this happens and the initial question hasn't been totally answered."

Another Great Quote from Dennis Dohogne

"Hey, SWX guys and gals, what if we used THIS post for some of our more fun or tangential comments so we keep the other posts with more serious discussions from getting distracted/off-topic (polluted)?"

How about this from BMX'rerer Todd Blacksher

- In an effort to keep the posts somewhat on topic, and make it easy to pick out the "good information," a couple of us thought it would be a good idea to put in a water cooler. Are you completely confused? It's simple, if there is a thread where we are all helping someone find a solution, and it makes you think of something semi-related, you can say "Head over to "The Kitty Dump"

We need a good quote from Kelef Man to get it started.....

Welp, I learned today that on Windows 10, when I double click inside SolidWorks while it's not responding, that it will probably crash.

I used to do that on Windows 7 just to notice when it would come back alive, now the damn thing just crashes without notice

Anybody know if there is a standard somewhere for a "flat" on a shaft? I don't use metric for much, and I'm assuming there is a standard somewhere for the size of flats for metric shafts.  This is for a 10mm shaft:

usually I made the shaft fit the part that it was going to go into.

Re: The "Kitty Dump" - Watercooler - Trash it Here - Food For Thought - Or Whatever else floats your boat, your Car, Truck, BMX or your Horse ;)

Thanks Edward. That looks like exactly what I was looking for.

We just about always use a key.  But, our electrical guys picked this part and if we have to use a set screw only, that's what we'll do.

I'm probably going to need to contact the company anyway.  Their dimension sheet has the drilled 13/32 holes for mounting within the body of the part...It appears there are no mounting feet for this particular configuration, and the holes aren't tapped.  I don't know how that's supposed to work.

Re: The "Kitty Dump" - Watercooler - Trash it Here - Food For Thought - Or Whatever else floats your boat, your Car, Truck, BMX or your Horse ;)

Matt Peneguy

I recently ordered this shaft with flats on it:

Precision Linear Shafts - Shaft Ends Specified | MISUMI | MISUMI USA

https://us.misumi-ec.com/pdf/fa/2012/p1_0099.pdf

Misumi will put the flats on for you.

Alternatively, you can look at the PDF file in the link and determine what they do for shaft flats and then stay inside that range.

Captain Teague became part of the Brethren Court, obtaining the title of Pirate Lord of Madagascar, and later Keeper of the Code. His candor, rigorous personal integrity, and uncompromising commitment to the Pirate Code had earned him the fear and respect not only of the other Pirate Lords.

OK, so what does the green color represent?  Less than 1%?   Its not on the list.

Is so that is complete crap.  It has been easily over 95 degree temp or over 95 degree heat index at my house at least 5% of the time this summer.

This is probably taking the average data from the weather station located near here, which is at the airport....which is also right near the bay.....and is always a lower temperature than where i am (on the top of the hills overlooking Traverse City)

Yeah, and they specifically state that it is not representative of mountainous areas.  One big caveat here is the use of the word AND < 10mph.  I guess they're trying to show that it's hot without a breeze here.  Also with the dew point > 75% they are also factoring in humidity.

Like I said, you can make statistics say anything.  I'm sure Dennis Dohogne would also take issue with that map because it's darn hot in FL where he's at, too... And I'm sure Glenn Schroeder would, too.  When I lived in TX as a kid, I remember it being swelteringly hot.

Well we are way to high then. our average wind speed here in Dodge is 15mph. of course we do spend much of our time over 95 degrees but it is a dry heat.

When it is hot it is hot.  My battery backup was dead, and it is going to be till some time next week before I get a battery.  I found one in another office that is not being used and when I had to restart the computer to finish updating a new download I needed, if figured change it out.

Then the computer would not come back up!!!! Thanks to some guys here that like messing with stuff they changed out the power supply and I was able to get it up for the end of the day.  My IT department had sent me three e-mails with suggestions on how to fix it.  With out the computer I have no idea how I would check those e-mails....

Thank God it is Friday and we just have a few more hours to go.

My wife was questioning me on why I choose that date and I told her it was simple. I took our birthdays to make the date for our anniversary. My month 11, - her month 3 = 8 and my day 9 + her day 14 = 23. So our anniversary is 8/23. She was totally surprised.

Well, my lovely bride and I are going away to a B&B for the weekend to celebrate our 37th anniversary (August 22, 1981) and then next weekend we are going to Evansville to see our three grandkids.

My pastor has a quote:

"If you want to improve we....improve me."

The "we" is referencing the marriage itself.   One thing to remember is that you can never improve your spouse....you can only improve your self.   Too many marriages fail in the "selfless" department.

Yep.  I told a newlywed friend in Taiwan as he was leaving for his honeymoon "It is not enough to tell your wife you love her, she has to FEEL it."  The words mean nothing compared to how she feels how you make her feel.

Yup same here...if you want to change something must start it with you first...my pastor Alejandra Stamateas says the same as your pastor.

Again...congratulations..

Take a trip to South Korea, you can improve both.

I was fortunate enough to celebrate turning 59 (on February 5th) this year during SWX World in Los Angeles with Rick Becker and Todd Blacksher, two really fine men!

And my wife wasn't old enough to drink (legally), but she was legal otherwise, being 20 at the time.  It was a Saturday when we got married.  Two days later on Monday she started her junior year in Civil Engineering and I started my masters in Mechanical Engineering.  She likes to tell people that we spent two years in our "honeymoon suite", but is quick to follow that with "Rolla isn't much of a honeymoon spot."  (Rolla, Missouri)

Lost another one:

You guys are not helping at all and are not answering my question. I asked how to sketch the surface of a straight belt along the curvature of the surface. If you are not willing to answer and instead wish to lecture me about what I do instead of trying to help, then there is no point in me continuing to ask the same question when no one wishes to answer. I do not need your help with Inventor or Solidworks, I asked a simple question at the beginning which no one wishes to answer.

Thank you all for your help.

OP try to design a 5 teeth pulley for 8mm pitch Gate Belt by drawing belt teeth on the pulley.

300 user group leaders,  how many user groups does that make?  more than 300 or less than 300?

Thanks to all the volunteer time given by the leaders, and presenters, and to SolidWorks for helping us do what we do.
