I’m always on the lookout for new DraftSight features that increase time efficiency and productivity during my drawing sessions. Luckily, while browsing the Manage tab of the ribbon, I found the Mouse Gesture icon in the Customization section.

Like most DraftSight operations, Mouse Gesture does what its name suggests – it allows you to access specific commands by performing certain gestures with your cursor.

More specifically, when you click on its icon in the ribbon, an options window will appear listing all of the features available to link to your mouse commands.

If you click on a feature’s Select column box, a drop-down menu will appear. For most commands, the default Mouse Gesture (None) will be activated.

In order to add a gesture to a function, simply specify one of the other Select menu options for that feature. Then, press OK to close your window, right click and drag your mouse to view your mouse gesture wheel. Hover over your feature of choice, deselect, and voila – your feature will be activated!

Keep in mind that each icon option in the Select column’s drop-down menu has an arrow. The direction of the arrow will point you towards the location of its feature in your mouse gesture wheel.

Side note: by default, there are eight Mouse Gestures (SimpleNote, Line, Open…, Save, Copy, Offset, Trim, and Zoom Bounds), but the options window allows you to change the total number to four. Likewise, you’ll always have the ability to revert back to the original Mouse Gesture wheel by pressing Reset to Defaults.
