I spent many years working in the SOLIDWORKS reseller channel doing tech support and teaching SOLIDWORKS classes. This afforded me the opportunity to work with thousands of individual SOLIDWORKS users across the U.S. One of the things I always looked forward to each summer was the release of the Beta version of SOLIDWORKS. Beta is your chance to try the next version of SOLIDWORKS before it launches later in the year. It’s an opportunity to explore the new features and possibly identify any bugs,

By now you’ve likely got your feet wet with the latest release of 3DEXPERIENCE® SOLIDWORKS, R2022x FD03, since the update came out in July. So, we finally got round part 2 of this series. In the first part of the series, we looked at how we can create and reuse standard cables using SOLIDWORKS Electrical Routing. In this part of the series, we are going to look at further automating our routing design process using From-To Lists. As mentioned previously in this series, this is a great way of setting up your route layouts in advance, including pin connection information, and is a great method for those who just love using Excel.

Routing Electrical is a great tool for incorporating the electrical aspect into your 3D models however, it can sometimes be a little time consuming. There are several different tools than can make this process a whole lot easier and quicker. Using standard cables and/or the from/to tables we can semi-automate several processes. In this 2-part series we will explain each method in turn.

We, Robots is a series of 3 posts about the use of SOLIDWORKS in Robotics, and its role as a transformation tool, whether in the classroom, in the laboratory, or on the factory floor. In the past few weeks, we saw an incredible post about the Witch Doctor and the use of SOLIDWORKS in Robotics. Inspired by their story, I decided to talk to some friends (who also competed in Battlebots) about the usage of the software in their activities. In addition to being a big fan of the team, I had the honor

When you go home at the end of the day, I am sure your house is laid out just the way you like it, making it easy to get around. Why not layout SOLIDWORKS in the same way, making all your useful and commonly used commands just a mouse click away? Think of it this way, most people spend more time in the office than they do in their own living room, so why not make it comfortable. When it comes to customizing the SOLIDWORKS User Interface you can go as subtle or as drastic as you wish, whether it

The 80’s blockbuster Back to the Future has stood the test of time (pun intended). And as the years have passed, it has also had some uncanny predictions, including the Cubs World Series (Why couldn’t Spielberg have predicted MY favorite team, the Brewers!?!?), our current president, video drones, wearable tech, hoverboards (kind of) and baseball scandals (some things never change). In some ways we’re surrounded with technology that far surpasses the trilogy (autonomous vehicles and machines,

In SOLIDWORKS PDM (Product Data Management) there are two terms that can be confusing to new users or even administrators to understand and those are “Versions” and “Revisions”. What are Versions?A version is a simple number (always starting at 1) which will be unique to every document in your vault whether it’s a part, assembly, word document or another file type. This number will increment every time you check out the file, make a change and check it back in.

As a kid watching the animated sitcom The Jetsons, Ryan Okelberry found the idea of robots and other whimsical devices doing pretty much everything, including combing hair and brushing teeth, very cool. These days, as COO of one of the fastest-growing tech companies in the country, he and fellow mechanical engineer and CEO Shane Dittrich enable robots that lower capital, labor, and production costs within the big picture of bringing manufacturing back to the USA. Okelberry and Dittrich started
