Student Teams work all year long to prepare for grueling competitions. Designs are perfected over years for the ultimate machine. Long before the students take to the track, they design, analyze, and then re-design/re-test their components and vehicles. I was fortunate to interview TEAM Eta, a Shell Eco Marathon team from Somaiya Vidyavihar University (SVU), in Mumbai, India.

SOLIDWORKS reseller, Ilker Uludag, CEO of TEKYAZ introduced me to Nurettin Sevdik, the youngest Certified SOLIDWORKS Expert (CSWE) in TURKEY. Nurettin, is a 17 years old student from ENKA Technical High School. He was part of the SOLIDWORKS FIRST Robotics Competition Student team and now is an active member of the TEKYAZ | 3DEXPERIENCE Students Platform.

We are proud to announce the winners of the first SOLIDWORKS xDesign Challenge for India! 1600+ students and 249 teams had 41 days to work on their Futuristic Public Transport designs. The submissions we received were amazing! The response from students was overwhelming from the activities posted in SWYM community, Creating Private Collaborative Space & Communities, Selfie Challenge, and most favorite xDesign Model Mania.

Alex Van Overbeeke-Costello is an intern in the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab and a passionate member of the UMass Lowell Formula SAE team. Recently, she joined her team in Barrie, Ontario to represent SOLIDWORKS and compete in Formula North, where 45 teams from across North America showcased their small, formula-style vehicles. The Dassault Systemes 3DEXPERIENCE Lab Boston, located in the North American Headquarters at Waltham, MA, has two components – a Startup Accelerator and a Fab Lab. The Accelerator works with early to mid-stage startups that focus on new technologies and products that can shift the scales of Innovation across domains of City, Life, Lifestyle, Internet of Things and Ideation. Young designers use SOLIDWORKS to innovate and invent. The Technical Innovation and Invention Olympics is a countrywide contest for high school students in Poland. Today student competitions can range from underwater to first reaches of space and everywhere in between. Students in these events get a chance to work with a fantastic range of technologies. A team can be made up students involved with disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, electronic, simulation, software development. Tasks involve activities including logging telemetry data after a test run flight, etc. and performing an FEA run on a structural frame design for a robot or Formula SAE car

This year’s SAE AERO Design West competition took place in the heart of the USA, nestled right in Fort Worth Texas. Students from all around the world and from different walks of life, filled the hotel lobby with propellers, DC motors, and aerodynamic fuselages, as they marched their planes in and out of the judges’ arena. Day 1 of the event was all about technical qualifications. A warm Texas morning welcomed the teams to the Thunderbird Field that hosted the Day 2’s agenda: Flight.
