It’s a cold, overcast day in New England, and a small crowd is assembled in an open field, eagerly anticipating the launch of a model rocket called the “Eggcubator.” The rocket is loaded on the launch rod, and the ignition clips are connected. As the countdown begins, there is a mix of excitement and nervousness in the air. Will the rocket fly?

This tutorial was inspired by mine and my husband’s love of Paris, and of course macarons! So, I decided to use the 3DEXPERIENCE platform’s xShape app to design and model a macaron. The model was then exported as a STEP file and imported into SOLIDWORKS for further editing. If you want to follow the tutorial and see how I added the custom lettering with a DXF file, you can download it here.

My name is Kirby Downey. I am a Senior Production Technician at 3DPRINTUK. I am a maker, a creator in my spare time, and also a SOLIDWORKS User Group Leader and a SOLIDWORKS champion. These last two titles I have 3DEXPERIENCE World to thank, because if I didn’t attend these events since 2017, then I would not be so involved with the SOLIDWORKS community.

I’m always looking at fun ways of using SOLIDWORKS, 3D printing and baking, plus autumn is one of my favorite seasons, so I decided to design an autumnal themed rolling pin. The rolling pin can be used for rolling out biscuit dough or icing and should leave you with an embossed pattern. The DXF of the pattern used in this tutorial can be downloaded here. You could create your own design or theme for your rolling pin, as long as it fits the tile size I have created, you also want to make sure

On the Community and User Advocacy Team, one of our constant goals is to highlight the love, passion, and expertise that SOLIDWORKS users have for all our products. It’s a truly rewarding experience to see a project to completion that accomplishes this goal. One project, that was more than one year in the making, has accomplished this goal in a big way. As part of an event called SLUGME7 (The SOLIDWORKS Largest User Group Meeting Ever), our team created a design for a very special recipient

I normally don’t take on commission work for 3D-printed aircraft, but when DBT Aero reached out to me in need of an R/C test bed for their full-scale design, it was hard to pass up the opportunity to work with them on such a challenging and interesting project. My initial reaction to seeing images of its design was, “Wow, that is not your typical looking aircraft. I really want to see that thing fly.” But as I’ve continued to work with them on this project, I’ve come to learn that DBT Aero’s

SOLIDWORKS LIVE has been dedicated to showcasing the best of our software use cases and, inherently, our user community for years now. Over the past several months, we’ve put 1+ hours each into doing both of those things within subject areas like design, simulation, data management, manufacturing, and more! But, particularly for those four areas, we did our best to deliver an instructive, compelling episode for each key CAD/CAE software domain listed. This blog is a round-up of sorts, cataloging

It is hard to believe that we’ve almost reached the end of 2022. It seems like a few weeks ago, we were broadcasting the shop floor from Charlotte, NC, with the help of Ellison Technologies. The shop floor area of 3DEXPERIENCE World has been a highlight of attendees for several years now. It always starts with a debrief on the last day of 3DEXPERIENCE World as we start planning for the next year based on all the feedback we receive and exciting things we learn from you, the attendee.

In Norse mythology, the goddess Freyja rides a beautiful chariot pulled by two cats. It just so happens that Princess Freyja, the 2021 recipient of the SOLIDWORKS Magic Wheelchair build, loves cats more than just about anything in the world. When the team first met Freyja, she told them about all of her likes, and they decided to make her princess dreams come true. The cat question was on the front of everyone’s minds.

In 2021, The SLUGME Committee had a wild idea to hold a 24-hour event and deliver technical presentations from around the globe. This seemed like an insurmountable task, and it was very far outside everyone’s comfort zone. With the help of many people, in August of 2021, we pulled off an epic event known as SLUGME6. You can watch a highlight video of that event here.

Most of my formative years as a kid were spent in the 1990’s, when the movie Memphis Belle was released. Being an airplane nerd, it instantly became my favorite film and still is to this day. It’s not really a critically acclaimed movie, but if you have any interest at all in aviation or World War II history, you must see it. This movie has it all: it has action, it has drama, and even some pretty great comedic scenes, like one featuring my favorite type of soup.

The best part about creating a Magic Wheelchair build is watching the child and their family see that costume for the first time. When SOLIDWORKS presented Freyja’s costume, the newly crowned princess gasped and her eyes grew to the size of saucer plates. She and her mother burst into tears. They were overjoyed to see Freyja’s castle.

As Senior Editor of Make: Magazine, I’ve seen plenty of impressive 3D printing projects. One thing that always stood out to me was the ingenuity displayed when people come up with ways of printing mechanical parts that come off the printer already interconnected and ready to move. Imagine, for example, printing a toy car on a 3D printer and not having to assemble anything, it just comes off the build plate and is ready to roll with functioning axles and everything. Well, if you’ve played around

The question I asked myself at the onset of this project sounds simple: can I design a 3D-printable R/C aircraft that is designed in one size but with the ability to scale it up or down a certain percentage in order to print the same design in multiple sizes? While the concept of a scalable design sounds simple at first, it presents a whole slew of problems when it comes to making sure all the different sized electronics and hardware will fit perfectly at the different sizes. I could design the
