The process flow for SOLIDWORKS usually starts with modeling a part / assembly and then afterwards creating a drawing from the model. Usually changes are made to the model and they are reflected across all the drawings. However, it is possible to directly modify part dimensions from the drawing.

SOLIDWORKS has many tools that are often forgotten because they are not on the main toolbars, or talked about much in training classes. One of these tools is the Modify Sketch tool, which has 3 main functions for modifying your Sketch, including Moving/Flipping, Rotating and Scaling. Modify Sketch can be found in the Tools dropdown, under Sketch Tools, Modify

My 18 year old son is revising for his Physics ‘A’ level and needed some help. I must admit my knowledge of ‘A’ level Physics is pretty rusty – but these days you can get fantastic revision guides – so armed with the guide I sat down to see if I could help him. I soon realised that, not only could I help him, but I could use SOLIDWORKS Motion to simulate how gravitational forces affect masses and how bodies move through space.

The earth is covered by nearly 71 percent water. Of that 71 percent, only about 2.5 percent is clean enough to drink. That being said, only 1 percent is actually easily accessible. The rest of it is confined to glaciers and ice fields.

Have you ever watched a large group of people on the move? From on high you can see the people moving around obstacles, creating pools of stationary traffic and choke points where the traffic slows to a crawl before accelerating on. It’s just like seeing streamline in the flow of a gas or a fluid, but with people. Flow simulation assumes continuum mechanics which is a good analogy for when a group of people are tightly contained and they are all moving towards an exit.

Recently, TMS CADCentre has received many support calls for assistance with updating SolidWorks to include recent license modifications such as extra seats on a network, new add-ons like SolidWorks Simulation, or upgrades from SolidWorks Standard to SolidWorks Premium. There are slightly different processes for each, and here’s a quick run-down of the main processes to follow.

The future is now; the days of the unarmed vehicles and advanced flight technology are no longer just something for the big screen. Perhaps, one day, you will be able to get inside your car or board a plane that won’t have a driver or pilot but it will still get you from point A to point B safely, a concept that Google is currently exploring, according an article in Popular Science.

Our nation (England) will soon be in mourning when the Australian cricket team claw back those coveted Ashes. How can our acclaimed 11 be blown away with such ease by the Aussie bowlers? It is tempting to be critical when you see the ultra-slow-mo of the ball making a mess of the stumps or that little nick to the slips, but consider, for a moment, the speed of events. Mitchell Johnson is hurling the leather at 95 mph.

When you create a new design, you need to know how much it costs. Are you going to be over budget or under? How do you find the cost of your sheet metal or machined parts? I would guess that you have an elaborate spreadsheet that you use to “guess” the price or you just compare it to a similar design.

If there’s one thing that I think everyone would agree with, it’s that we all like to try products before we buy them. At SolidWorks, we understand how important cost can be when determining which CAD software best fits your needs before purchasing a commercial license. So wouldn’t it be great if you were able to evaluate a new CAD tool before purchasing? Well, you’re in luck—SolidWorks provides the opportunity to evaluate SolidWorks software by offering free product trials!

I’ve been asked a couple of times if there was an easy way to tweak, change, or ‘fudge’ a drawing view. Some people want to change a line style, some may want to change a thickness, and some may just want to hide a line or two to clean up a drawing view. Well, to change a style, a thickness, or hide an edge in a drawing, it’s as simple as selecting the line with the left mouse button. Here you can change any line in your drawing view to be thicker, a different style, or even a different color.

Summer is back at the office in Waltham, MA – we can finally enjoy the warm, sunny outdoors. Some of you may be busy firing up the grill or planning your next fishing adventure on the lake. Even though my fishing experience is short, I remember how hard it was to position the boat without scaring off all of the fish. Anchoring a boat can be a tiresome process – it takes away valuable time that could be used to cast a line and make your first catch.
