The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) recently conducted their 2017 MBE PMI validation and conformance test for CAD vendors. They previously ran the test in 2012 and 2015. 2008年以降, SOLIDWORKS では,モデルベースの定義 (MBD:Model Based Definition) といった業界の動向や,ASME Y14.41-2003 (2012年更新) やMilitary Standard-31000 (2013 revision-A) といった規格.標準を率先して支援してきました。設計意図や製造のための詳細情報を伝えるために依然として使用される紙の書類は,コストもかかる上にミスも誘発しがちなため,これを削減していこうというのがMBDのねらいです。振り返ると,コンピューター支援設計 (CAD) 導入からほぼ40年が経過した今でも,私たちは未だに紙の図面に頼って仕事しています。また,MBDの目的の1つに正確な製造オペレーションに必要な公差情報から品質管理ロボット(CMM:座標測定機)を操作するための指示情報まで,設計における詳細な情報をロボットで読み込み可能にするということが挙げられます。

SOLIDWORKS Model Based Definition was a great tool when it was introduced all the way back in 2015. It is SOLIDWORKS solution to drawing-less manufacturing. Even in its short life so far, there have been a lot of enhancements added to the product to either make it easier to use or increase the capabilities. With 2017 right around the corner, I wanted to remind everyone of some of those enhancements in 2016.

SOLIDWORKS Model Based Definition (MBD) has many predefined templates for both parts and assemblies, but creating custom templates allows more streamlined PDFs that are tailored to the specifications of each product. Using the template editor allows lots of customization options including inserting more tables, changing the paper size and orientation of the template, or adding an image. Customization reduces the need to attach files to the PDF, or send multiple documents along with the PDF.

In SOLIDWORKS Model Based Definition 2016 (MBD), enhancements to the Note and Balloon functionalities now provide a more comprehensive annotating tool. Using the Flag Note Bank, one can organize notes in a numbered inventory to clearly communicate instructions to the viewer. Additionally, the notes can be saved and reused on multiple bodies and even on separate parts of an assembly.

This module covers three technical summaries for using SOLIDWORKS MBD. For drafted parts: Create DimXpert Location dimensions between drafted surfaces by suppressing draft or using intersection geometry. For sheet metal: Use a separate configuration for the flat pattern of a sheet metal part. Use reference dimensions to dimension between sheet metal bend lines. For weldment structures: Use cut lists to display dimensions for structural members of weldment structures. Add 3D Notes to the weldment structure and apply weldment symbols.
