Quality control can be a cumbersome process especially when you have a large assemblies and you’re working with pages upon pages of documentation. You can spend nearly a day ballooning each dimension with a red pen and circle template and creating an inspection report. If you make a mistake, you have to do it all over again. Wamore, a SOLIDWORKS customer developing precise airdrop systems for the U.S. military, experienced issues with its assemblies due to a similar process.

Most inspection reports are created manually. Inspection forms require many man-hours to complete and check for documentation errors. Given the tedious manual process and the nuances of inspection requirements, mistakes are commonly made. At the end of the day, we’re talking about paperwork – not something that you can’t wait to get your hands on.

One of the most important processes at any company who designs or manufactures a product is proper quality control. The impact is harsh and swift for companies who are lax in producing quality products. In the age of social media, with product reviews and increased competition, it is more important than ever to strive in the pursuit of 100% quality or risk losing compliance with ISO or FDA and even worse, alienating your customers.

Not only does SOLIDWORKS Inspection includes multiple FAI or AS9102 templates out of the box, but it also offers a simple yet powerful template editor to create customized inspection reports. To include any type of information into your custom template, all you have to do is select a cell in your spreadsheet, then the type of information to add and finally click insert. The template editor will enter a token in that cell telling SOLIDWORKS Inspection the information to extract from the project.
