IIS Perlasca challenges students’ passion for Design with their own version of the SOLIDWORKS Model mania contest. IIS Perlasca students recently achieved Certified SOLIDWORKS Associate (CSWA) and Certified SOLIDWORKS Professional (CSWP) as part of our SOLIDWORKS academic certification program. Since 1865, WPI has pioneered innovation in engineering education, research, and community. In our latest SOLIDWORKS case study with WPI, we interviewed Michael Gennert, Robotics Engineering Program Director at WPI. WPI was the first college in the USA to offer an undergraduate degree in Robotics Engineering. Today Workshops for Warriors in San Diego California is rebuilding America’s advanced manufacturing workforce by a rigorous skills based training program with the latest technology. The National University of Singapore (NUS) and our SOLIDWORKS Value Added Reseller Selfpac3D Pte Ltd hosted the largest SOLIDWORKS certification event in Singapore. Students, realizing the value of SOLIDWORKS certification, attended the NUS event on Saturday to take Certified SOLIDWORKS Associate CSWA and Certified SOLIDWORKS Professional CSWP exams.

Dassault Systemes Project of the Year 2015 design contest showcases student designs throughout the world. My colleague, Wei Li sent me great SOLIDWORKS images and models by students to share with you. Project VOLAT – Prototype Drone Design and Manufacturing by Alex Norieg, Universidad Tecnológica de Chihuahua, Mexico, is about the development of a drone able to make video streaming to PCs and smartphones via WiFi.

Last week I found myself Wenceslaus Square, city center of Prague, Czech Republic. The Velvet Revolution of November/December 1989 created a new country with students ready to compete on a global stage. Engineering mechanics teaches you that a “body” has six degrees of freedom, 3-translational and 3-rotational. Traveling this week, I realize the SolidWorks Community also has 6 degrees of freedom. They are SolidWorks 1. customers, 2. value added resellers, 3. educators, 4. students, 5. partners, and 6. user group leaders. The common bond is SOLIDWORKS.

Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) hosted its first CSWA academic exam session last month. Supported by our SolidWorks Value Added Reseller, 3DClassWorks,18 students achieved Certified SolidWorks Assoicate. SUTD is a relatively new university in Singapore, started in conjunction with MIT.

My daughter, Stephanie created this pencil sketch as a gift to her boyfriend Thiago based on his favorite video game characters.
