Is there a way to change the filename that is exported from SW to AutoCad. The default is 00_filename.dwg...01_filename.dwg...02_filename.dwg...etc. I would like to change the first 00 to 01 to reflect the sheet number in the SW drawing.

Thanks for any help

Re: Solidworks to DWG export file names

Matt,

I am not exactly sure what you are asking.

When I do a save as in Solidworks drawing to .dwg I can put anything I want in front

of the .dwg   You can even select the file in windows explorer and hit F2 to change the name.

As long as the .dwg stays.

Maybe I am missing something.

Re: Solidworks to DWG export file names

Scott,

I know I can change the filename part but SW also adds a number prefix to the filename it exports when using multi sheets. Its these number I am trying to alter. SW calls it serializing the filenames.

A macro is something to use.

Check these (you might have to edit them) or better post the query under API section if you feel macro can be a g

Matt,

I appologize.  I understand now what you are talking about.  Well, like Deepak

said making a macro may be your best option.

When you do a save as in Solidworks have you selected "Options"?

You can save the sheets individiually (one at a time) and have control over the file

names at that point.

Re: Solidworks to DWG export file names

I guess im not very clear so I will try again. I am using multi-sheet drawings. What I want to do is export each sheet to individual Autocad files in one shot. Sometimes I have Solidworks drawings that have 100 sheets and it would take forever to do it one at a time. If my Solidworks drawing is called 123456 then I would like to export the multi-sheet drawing to individual Autocad drawings with filenames like this 01-123456 , 02-123456 , 03-123456...etc. where the xx- is the sheet number. Instead Solidworks exports to filenames like this 00-123456 , 01-123456 , 02-123456...etc. I would like for the software to start with 01 instead of 00 to reflect the actual sheet number. It makes my exported sheets look like they are one number off. I hope this makes sense. Thanks for all the replies, I do appreciate the help.

There is no direct option in SolidWorks to do that but I would suggest you to use a macro to fix the job. Did you check Batch export to dwg macro. It can be edited to save the SW drw file with multi sheets into individual dwg with the number as required.

Re: Solidworks to DWG export file names

Thanks for all the repies. It looks like Solidworks Task Scheduler did exactly what I was after. I wonder why saving directly from a SW drawing spits out files differently. Anyway thanks to everyone for the help.

Re: Solidworks to DWG export file names

I agree that there should be an option as to how to handle .dwg file names when exporting multiple sheet drawings.

We don't have time to rename all the sheets, and we shouldn't have to make a macro.

Who thought putting a 00 in front of the filename for sheet 1 made sense?

It would be nice to have the sheet number at the end of the filename also for sorting in windows explorer.

Much like "Save as" gives you the option to append, or add prefixes or suffixes. This option would be nice for sawing .dwg files also.

Re: Solidworks to DWG export file names

David. I would suggest you to add this as an idea for SWW15. The idea submission is going to end soon.

Re: Solidworks to DWG export file names

Not sure it's in my top ten list, but I submitted it anyway, along with sending in an enhancement request.

Re: Solidworks to DWG export file names

Hello Deepak,

I have the same question as Matt Kirby,

but many years have passed since these posts.

I need to be able to add a suffix that will number the sheets 1, 2, 3, etc.

as they are Save As dwg files out of a multiple sheet .slddrw.

How can I do this?

Do I need a macro?

Re: Solidworks to DWG export file names

Hello Matt,

I need to be able to do exactly what you had requested in your post too,

how can I Save As DWG from a multiple sheet .sldrrw

with a suffix of 01, 02, 03, 04 etc.?

Yes you would need a macro. You can also do it directly from SW but there is not way to add/change the suffix.

From SW, set/use this option during save as dxf/dwg

Re: Solidworks to DWG export file names

Hi Deepak,

yes, please, we need a Macro to add a suffix to number each sheet 01, 02, 03 etc.
