I would like it if there were some way to have sheet metal called out by what it is rather than just its material.  For instance if I am using 1/8" aluminum sheet I would like it called out as such rather than just telling me that it is aluminum.  I would like to condense my BOM table information into a box or two rather than being spread out across five or six columns.

Maybe there is a way to join several properties together into one property (but I don't know how to do that)?

Any ideas?

I found a couple dead end threads on this from several years ago, but nothing recent.

Yes there are ways to do this; although they may not fit your situation.  Where is the property you want to populate: Cut-List, Configuration Specific or Custom tab?  Can you upload a example model (include SW version) and I will take a look.

if you add material to the part you can have it called out in the BOM.

This is my way to show an extended material description in BOM:

This is very much along the lines of what I was thinking.  How do you link the dimension into the property?  I seem to be hung up there.

Re: Is there a way to have the sheet metal material information called out in a BOM?

We use sheetmetal and not weldments or cut lists so what we do is once the part is finalized we run a macro that will find the thickness and then set custom properties for material number, material description and material quantity. The material properties are determined by thickness so you would need to setup different macros if you use different materials (aluminum, steel, stainless ect.)

I have attached it, you will need to edit it to have your material numbers and descriptions

1. Keep cursor on Value /  Text Expression:

2. Click on the any dimension you need to insert:
