Option for "Offset Surface" to offset all possible faces

Allow equations (including if/then statements) in defining custom properties

Add option to limit the Coincident Mate to the area of the face that is selected, for all types of faces

Add ability to project any type of entity (Face, Component(s), Body, Bodies on a Plane or a Surface, like we can do now with edges

BOM driven by Display States (get a list of all components visible in a drawing view)

Allow features to be edited from inside the Comments folder

Unbend any profile (tube, pipe, bent component) similar to the Sheet Metal Functionality

Enhance the Cut-List Table functionality to match a BOM Table functionality

New mate: Volume or Boundary Mate

New Mates: Distance Mate and Limit Mate between Components

Tool to quickly identify fillets on imported geometry

Allow features to be edited from inside the Comments folder

Allow equations in sensors

Also like these ones:

"Show Feature Dimensions" for Individual Features

Mates - Line Segment and Partial Circle Sketch Mates -

Import SolidWorks files of futur version into and older one with 3D interconnect.

Update Bounding Box of part from top assembly

Thanks Alin Vargatu as a new user to this Forum I would not have known that's where we're supposed to go.

I do have another question: Are we only allowed to vote on "Ideas" during these few weeks out of the year?

That is correct. That being said, you can submit enhancement requests via the Customer Portal year-round.

Just download and open the spreadsheet and look through the entire list..... or maybe use the Find & Search feature in Excel.... or just go through each one.  What I would recommend is to go through the list and highlight each row that would apply to you and then go back and sort out those topics and open and vote each one, then when you;re done voting you can highlight the ones you voted for.

John,

Is it possible to update the spreadsheet to show number of votes cast per idea?

I know that would be a snapshot in time; I don't know if it's possible or worth doing to try to keep it current.

So, maybe you could share how you created it, so I could grab a snapshot any time I wanted.

It is an excellent tool.  It makes it very easy to browse the 600 + ideas.

Don,

I would prefer that we NOT see the number of votes as this tends to influence the voter and turn things into a popularity contest.  It is certainly more work, but I would rather the voter give fair consideration of each idea and vote based on that, rather than be infuenced by how many others have voted for it.

Don Carter - Totally with Dennis Dohogne - I also think that showing the number of votes could just prompt guy to breeze over the entire list of over 600 ideas and just voting for ideas on the first page, without reading the rest.

Even though I would have loved to see Alin Vargatu get the top three spots, I think that would cap off a great year especially everything that Alin brought to the Forum in 2017 with his challenges that he gave us.  He's enticing a lot of us to the next level and reminding each one of us that there are no limits in SW, we only limit ourselves with our personal workflows and how we think it should work.

Re: Time to Vote on the Future of SOLIDWORKS!

Last night I tried to look at more of the ideas to finish my voting and I found that I was getting an error on 3 categories.

I got this in the categories of "Assemblies", "General" and "Parts\Features\Surfacing"

Today I tried these again (a few times)  and I am finding that:

In "Assemblies" Most is available but page 5 is not accessible - if you click on the page 5 at the bottom of the list in the page number area:

nothing will happen, if you click the arrows it will skip to page 6 and if you are on page 6 it will skip to page 4.

The "General" section still gets the error shown above  and is not accessible.

.

The "Parts\Features\Surfacing" area seems to be working (but I have not tried all pages yet).

Is anyone else seeing this?

I am using Chrome as my browser - don't know if this is another Chrome issue.

EDIT:

Just scrolled through the pages in the "Parts\Features\Surfacing" section and it also has the "Skipping of page 5" problem.

Re: Time to Vote on the Future of SOLIDWORKS!

Well now the General section is Generally working but like the others I listed above the page 5 doesn't work.

I also realized that I was sorting each by title and having that problem so I went in and switched to Sort by date created and then found other pages did not respond. This is restricting the ability to see and vote on several Ideas.

Maybe Jim Wilkinson, Richard Doyle can check into it or contact someone that can.

Rick, you've tagged the right guys in Jim and Richard.  Unfortunately the SWW website is not completely under their control.  I don't know if it is Jive, the same company that hosts this forum, but if it is not they aren't any better.  I had already contacted Richard about another problem with the search.  Their response was that it was working as designed, though it was certainly a stupid design.  (In the search for people attending SWW the list was limited to a display of only 300 people.  You could find someone in particular by searching for them, but if you wanted to scroll through the names to see someone you recognized you were SOL unless they were in the top 300 alphabetically.  What brainiac came up with that stupid design?!)

I just tried it out and I never get an unexpected error when navigating with the arrow keys or page numbers.

However, I do find that if I go to just about any category (or even the full listing of ideas), and navigate with the arrow keys or page numbers, at some point, when navigating to the next page, the listing on the page will not update. When I'm on the page of contents that did not update, if I hit F5 to refresh, THEN it will give an unexpected error. The page that won't refresh is most often somewhere around page 5, but I've had it happen on various pages, including as early as page 2 or 3.

My guess is this is some sort of problem with the forum platform itself and Richard Doyle will need to take it from here to report it to the forum provider.

Thanks,
Jim

Time to Vote on the Future of SOLIDWORKS!

Just a quick heads up, if anyone is having difficulties to vote it could be because you are required to first vote on how the R&D resources should be allocated. Use this link for that: https://forum.solidworks.com/community/solidworks-world-2018-top-ten-list

Re: Time to Vote on the Future of SOLIDWORKS!

Hi Jim,

I'm glad you saw the problem also to confirm it but not glad because this shows that it is probably everyone that is having the issue.

I have not tried the F5 to refresh, but I did notice that one day I was getting the error on 3 pages and Friday on just one page, so it seems that it is a changing error - like it is overloaded or something.

It seemed that any time I got it skipping page 5 was when I was sorting by title.  When I changed to sort by other selections I saw that change - page 5 would work but page 2 or 3 failed in most categories.

Depending on the title and the sort order I was able to see some of the Ideas that were skipped on other sort areas but not always.

I hope that Richard Doyle can get Jive to fix this or some Ideas may get overlooked and not accurately voted on.

I have noticed a quirk. I only mention it in case it can help to diagnose what is going on.

If I go to the Top Ten list via this link SOLIDWORKS World 2018 Top Ten List

And I click on the Content link...

toptenlandingpage.JPG

I will get this as available sorts...

topten initial sort.JPG

If I click on an idea and want to go back to the content page I will click on Idea...

topten ideas link.JPG

I then get this a sort options...

topten subsequent sort.JPG

Not a problem, just odd.

Hi Rick,

That is working as I am guessing the forum provider designed it to work. In the first image where you are showing the content tab, all content is selected, which consists of 5 blog posts and 641 ideas, so it presents filter options that can apply to all of that content. The second image of the content page shows that just the Ideas are selected, so it provides filters that are specifically useful to filtering ideas. This is fairly common in content "aggregator" interfaces like this to customize filtering options based on the content/context.

Thanks,

Jim
