I am trying to save a countersink as a favorite as I use it quite often.

Every thing I read about saving a hole wizard feature refers to clicking on a "favorites" icon in the hole wizard feature manager.

I have no favorites stars showing as you can see in the screenshot.

I have selected to "Show Favorites" in the design tree but still nothing.

Running SW 2017 sp 0 (can't upgrade to sp 5)

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

James,

I don't know why yours isn't showing favorites. As you can see mine does.

I'm running 2017 SP5.0 but the favorites have been there as long as I can remember.

This is from 2016 SP 5.0

As you can see the favorites were there as well.

Wish I could help more but at least you know that the favorites should be there in 2017 SP 0.

Re: No "favorite" icons (stars) in hole wizard feature manager

Not sure what you mean by legacy hole selected. I have made a custom hole using the tools provided as I assume that's what it's for.

If you could clarify what a legacy hole is, I might get it but I'm a bit dense apparently.

Also, I still don't understand why the favorites stars are not showing. Is it because I have selected a legacy hole?

I appreciate the responses but am still baffled by these "two" issues.

The icon marked in following image is called Legacy Hole and you can't save a Legacy Hole.

If you want to save it as a favorite you must use other types.

then tick Show custom sizing and change the default settings. Then you can save it as a favorite.

I never noticed the favorites weren't available with the legacy hole selected.

I learn something new every day on this forum!

Re: No "favorite" icons (stars) in hole wizard feature manager

Hi James,

You have the legacy hole type selected and as documented in the help topic below (in the last section under Favorite Name), it indicates that Favorites are not supported for legacy hole types. If you make your countersink hole using the countersink hole button (middle one in the top row), then you can save it as a favorite.

I hope this helps,

Hi James,

I'm sorry for the confusion. I must have forgot to past in the link to the help that I mentioned in my original reply. I edited that post and added it and pasted it here too for convenience:

2018 SOLIDWORKS Help - Hole Wizard Overview

And this help topic describes the different hole types:

2018 SOLIDWORKS Help - Hole Wizard Type PropertyManager

Legacy Holes are ones that use an old kind of specification that was very limited and we replaced with all of the other hole types starting in SOLIDWORKS 2000 (as mentioned in that second topic). They are only still available in the interface because some users have workflows, macros, etc. that are dependent on them. The other hole types have all of the functionality of the legacy ones and much more so we highly recommend using them instead.

Thanks,

Jim

I just want to point out that the very well written explanation was from Habib Ghalamkari not from me.

Don't want to steal anyone's thunder!
