I have a sheet metal part the was created by my predecessor. The 18 flanges at the top, bottom, and middle of the tank are already cut into the sheet metal part and I need to bend them inwards by 90 degrees. I also need to bend the 15 rectangular fins inward by at least 30 degrees.

I know it is possible because I have found examples like the one below online. I need to bend my flanges inward so they look something like this:

Can anyone tell me how to do this?

Re: I need to bend flanges from a curved surface

I had a co-worker who tried to figure that out for months. Don't think there is a simple way. Watching for solution.

Re: I need to bend flanges from a curved surface

Carn't you just add an edge flange or hem with the sheet metal features?

Re: I need to bend flanges from a curved surface

Try it, can't make a flange from a curved edge. At least in my SW 2016.

Re: I need to bend flanges from a curved surface

1. Create a base flange from a curved sketch which is attached to the top of the cylinder and make 1mm thick

2. Then you can create a hem on the outer edge

3. You then need to make a thin feature cut to create a linear surface to sketch on

4. Create your second base flange from the newly created linear surface

Isn't that making two sheet metal parts? Your picture is too small for me to look at how many solid bodies and flat patterns your tree has.

Re: I need to bend flanges from a curved surface

I'm away from my desk now so I can't try

Can you make it flat with all features then use warp to create final shape

Re: I need to bend flanges from a curved surface

Having that large hem radius like that affects where other parts will sit. Does this also create multiple sheet metal parts?

Re: I need to bend flanges from a curved surface

I am using SW '17....like I originally posted, it seems possible as I have found pictures.

Re: I need to bend flanges from a curved surface

It does not like when I try to do edge flange because the pattern is unfolded.

Re: I need to bend flanges from a curved surface

Christian is on the right path. You can create your flat, make flanges and obtain your flat pattern.

Couldn't figure how to roll it to a 7 ID radius after, but you can use you original model and edit it with extrudes to show the final desired product and then use the part created as a flat as your flat pattern with bend info. Two part files used to obtain final print. Not the easiest way, but if i were stuck, this would be my work around.
