I can't open a Solidworks document by double clicking it from within the PDM vault. I can open our other file types (AutoCAD, Excel, Word etc.) but any Solidworks file doesn't work this way. I can use the File/Open menu inside Solidworks or drag a file into Solidworks.

I am currently using Solidworks 2016 SP 5.0 and running Windows 7.

Re: I can't open a Solidworks document by double clicking

In Windows make sure that the SolidWorks file types are associated with SolidWorks Launcher.   What I think will work is right click a part file and choose open with.  Choose SolidWorks Launcher and check the box for always do this.   Repeat for Drawing and Assembly.   Restart.   I think this should take care of it.

Google this topic and you will find several solutions.

Re: I can't open a Solidworks document by double clicking

Thanks Ken, I had tried this a few times without anything working. I tried again and accidentally did it while Solidworks wasn't already open. for some reason this time it worked and now works both while open and without.

Thanks for the help!

Re: I can't open a Solidworks document by double clicking

Sometimes this happens to me while Solidworks is running. To get around it I usually have to close down Solidworks and reopen it. Also, the program may continue to run in the background for awhile, so you may have to end it from task manager.

I haven't figured out the cause of this issue. Although it does seem to happen more if I use the PDM addin within Solidworks.
