How to make it Ø? When I tried with Ø symbol in PM a window pop-up.
Categories: Drawings and Detailing
What do you show here?
If all else fails, instead of using that to get the diameter symbol just hold down the Alt key while typing 0216. When you release the Alt key you'll get the symbol ( Ø ).
It would appear that your setting for the symbol library is incorrect. As the message indicates you need to go to the File Locations part of System Options and set it to the correct setting. the standard setting is below.
If that doesn't work, your library might be messed up.
go to windows explorer, search c: for GTOL.SYM
Either note location and add to System Options > File Locations > Symbol library file
Or, copy the GTOL.SYM from the search window, navigate to directory specified in system options > file locations > symbol library file and paste.
If you can't find GTOL.SYM, or perhaps it's corrupted for some reason, I've attached one that should be standard.
Looks like you need to delete all the clutter and stick with one directory. We have all pointed to the same one you should be using.
Even though I set for Symbol Library File, it is defaulting to Document Templates.
How old is your installation?
Wow, that's very strange.
I think you might need to contact your VAR for that one.
Same as what Bjorn suggested but with step by step: Fixing Diameter Symbol Displaying As MOD-DIAM instead of ø in SOLIDWORKS
Before I was with student edition. It was yesterday I moved to 2017 commercial licence. I know there may be teething problems at the beginning.
Did you do a clean install? It looks like your install may have some issues.
VAR is know everything he did not give any instruction about this.
Only thing was I uninstalled the the student edition and shut down and boot the computer again. According to your literature it seems many things have to be done before installing a new edition.
Maha, the drop down is not a setting. It is a list of settings. You pick the one you want to change each time you go to File Locations. Find GTOL.SYM at C:\Program Data*\SOLIDWORKS\SOLIDWORKS Corp 20XX\lang\English (or whatever your language is for your install). If the folder is hidden, follow the instructions on Deepak's blog to show it. Then, set that location as your File Location for Symbols Library File.
The clean install has been recommended for as long as I can remember. It's not strictly necessary, but it definitely helps prevent install issues.
If you do a clean install, then still get the issue, it would be time to contact your VAR as Tony Tieuli suggested.
Deepak, has your file download been updated? We've added functionality and symbols each year.
Good catch Matthew. I'll upload for each version such that a higher version file doesn't create issue for lower version OR changes made in higher version file would be compatible with lower version
What has always worked for me is using the dropdown - Symbol Library File - Delete all folder locations - then hit OK.. You get this message. Pick Restore default installation folder. Then all is well.
They wouldn't say anything about this unless you specifically ask them about it.
Give them a call and tell them about the problem you're having. They'll be able to help you.
Maha Nadarasa -
Attached is a copy of my Tools/Options setup page, now the big difference here is my file location directories and yours are not going to match so you should create a folder and point all your stuff to that directory/folder.. Here is a snap shot of my folder structure
I point everything to here, (this folder directory is on our server so all our computers go to this directory)
See the attached PDF for an example...
Could you tell me please what is happening under the hood? Because you are asking me to delete all folder locations.

File is there. But how to set that as a File Location for Symbols Library File.
Thank you very much for your help.
You are showing document templates not symbol library
