On the creation of a new project/machine using a template the variables are not populating in the vault explorer columns. Why is this?

They are shown in "View Values". "Edit Values" is empty. But it I manually copy the values into "Edit Values" and save the columns populate.

That somewhat defeats the purpose of using a template... Any advice?

If I were to guess I'd say you didn't map the Template variables to the Card variables. In the Edit Template wizard go to the Files and Folders section, right click on the folder and choose Properties and look on the Copy Variables tab.

Make sure you have made template variable in the template and the folder should have those template variable assigned to a specific variable against it. To cross check it, Follow the procedure as shown in the following imagesfolder propeties.pngtemplate variable.JPG

That did the trick - thanks. Is there a way to copy variables to the folders which are already created?
