Sheet scale and border resizing
SOLIDWORKS Forums

Hey all,

I am having an issue with my page border when changing sheet scale. If I change the sheet scale for any sheet in a multi-sheet drawing, then all the other sheet formats get messed up. The border around the edge of the page shrinks. This requires me to reload the sheet format for each sheet every time I change scale anywhere in the drawing.

Any suggestions? Could I have set up my sheet format the wrong way?

Thanks

Here is what the border looks like properly scaled:

and after I change scale (requiring me to reload the sheet format):

Re: Sheet scale and border resizing

It seems like maybe you weren't in "Edit sheet format" mode when placing the lines for the border.  Could that be it?

Re: Sheet scale and border resizing

My group at work has seen this same problem.  I do not have a solution, but one of my co-workers found a work-around.  When the smaller boarder lines show up, right click and select "Edit Sheet Format".  Then, click and drag one of the corners of the incorrect border to anywhere on the sheet (does not matter where, just move it from its original location).  Then undo that change (Ctrl+Z).  You will now be able to delete the unneeded border lines.

Again, we haven't been able to determine what is happening, but that is our work-around.

Re: Sheet scale and border resizing

Hey Jared,

So the way I fixed my issue was to edit the sheet format file.

- Open a new drawing with your company's template loaded

- In the Sheet Format tab hit 'edit sheet format'

- Then in the same tab hit 'automatic border'

- hit next (blue arrow at top) to skip the delete prompt

- format your border so that it looks the way it should

- Click the green arrow to save

- then exit the Edit Sheet Format mode

Then from the file menu, select: 'save sheet format' and overwrite your current sheet format wherever that is saved (you can check where it's saved by going to Options ->.File Locations -> Sheet Formats.)

Now  when you change scale it should remain constant as long as you're not changing the size of your drawing sheet (whether it be 11x17, 8.5x11, etc). I think in my case my border was resizing because the border in my sheet format had originally been saved for a different paper size.

Hope this helps

Re: Sheet scale and border resizing

Also make sure your border is being generated by the 'Automatic Border' function. Probably would be best to delete whatever border you currently have and make one from scratch using that function

Re: Sheet scale and border resizing

Will,

I created the new border in that way and was still having issues.  It turns out, as best as I can tell, our template were formed in an older version of Solidworks--maybe even from Autocad-- and the point that Solidworks uses at the origin for the border was incorrect.  Basically, I had to use the Move command to move the sheet's origin point to the origin point being used by the automatic border.  Very odd, but things seem to be completely functional now.
