How many times do you see a great thread get trashed or hijacked for various reasons and I'll take the "Stand" and say I'm the worst for doing that..  So when I'm acting stupid tell me to trash it here, get it?? Rants - Cheers - Pet Peeves - or your Aunt Lilly, bring it..  (More then likely the dumbest thread anybody started, but I tried to keep it stupid, stupid) - The Forum Moderators rules still apply, no obscene pics, raunchy language and personal attacks, those will be reported and deleted if not changed...

To Quote the Great Rick Becker.....

"When a perfectly valid and good question is asked, the thread gets a lot of great answers and some more questions. Once the questions has been answered to each persons (this includes you and me) satisfaction, we no longer need or want the discussion to continue.
We get the emails notifying us that another (and another and another and another...) post has been made and we get frustrated with the time wasting and we get snarky.

The other thing that seems to happen all too often is a post gets hijacked. The discussion moves off of the initial topic (ONE and TWO...) into many sub topics. Sometimes this happens and the initial question hasn't been totally answered."

Another Great Quote from Dennis Dohogne

"Hey, SWX guys and gals, what if we used THIS post for some of our more fun or tangential comments so we keep the other posts with more serious discussions from getting distracted/off-topic (polluted)?"

How about this from BMX'rerer Todd Blacksher

- In an effort to keep the posts somewhat on topic, and make it easy to pick out the "good information," a couple of us thought it would be a good idea to put in a water cooler. Are you completely confused? It's simple, if there is a thread where we are all helping someone find a solution, and it makes you think of something semi-related, you can say "Head over to "The Kitty Dump"

We need a good quote from Kelef Man to get it started.....

I really wanted to go, I was sent a link to join my slugme but when I got to the page I could not find out where or how to join.

I did not spend days looking for the info, but how do you join?

Todd, I was blown away at what a truly awesome, brilliant and superbly professional  presentation you accomplished at SLUGME last night!

They only negative I could offer is you went so quickly through all the tips/tricks that I couldn't keep up. I was a bit shamefaced at how many tips I didn't know.

Would it be possible to have that put up on YouTube?

I also didn't have the ability to see it but wanted to.  I searched last night and think I may have found a link for tickets but it was already after the event was complete, so I had no ability to see it.

Maybe for next years, there could be an expansion of it to let users that don't have a local meeting can join in easily (and if there was this year, I would suggest next year it is more noticeably published how to connect outside the user group meeting.

I believe the mechanism used to simultaneously transmit to 65 or so User Groups around the world was GoToMeeting and you needee an invite to view.

I personally think this is a Great idea, although it rubs against the grain of encouraging participation in your local SW User Group.

Re: The "Kitty Dump" - Watercooler - Trash it Here - INSTALLED 2018 - Wow - Good Stuff

Aw shucks guys . . . I was just having fun . . .

I'll admit it, I probably put in too many tips for that amount of time, but there is so much cool stuff - how do you decide what to drop?

I believe that the presentation was supposed to be recorded, but I don't know if they were going to make it available - I will be checking on this today.

I will also be giving this presentation at SWW18 - There should be a little more time, because I won't be doing the User Group "shout outs".

I was always surprised by the number of people that would ask about the "small things" that I would do during a normal presentation - it was just little stuff that I took for granted and assumed that everyone knew.  After getting the "back up, how did you do that?" a number of times, I started putting them all together for a presentation.

Thanks again, glad I was able to share some of my knowledge with those that have given so much to me!

Re: The "Kitty Dump" - Watercooler - Trash it Here - INSTALLED 2018 - Wow - Good Stuff

First, great job Todd Blacksher, both on the content and flow of the presentation and powering through a few live interruptions or hiccups.

I think he said he'd be sharing some of it on the boards, I suppose a slide deck or maybe video? We (attendees) talked a bit afterward at my meeting, and hoped he'd share some parts and assembly files too, like the last assembly (draining the tub).

That's really weird, because the Phoenix group participated last night (I believe that was where Edward Poole "joined the party")

The only way to participate was to be at a User Group meeting.

(or catch the encore presentation at SWW18)

EDIT - My mistake, Francisco Martinez name rang a bell, but I didn't catch it right away.

Thanks - Always enjoy the shop, but the days were a little longer only because I was helping to rearrange some inventory storage and the area I was working in was right by the 3 and 5 axis machines and there was a very fine coating of wood dust, not thick, probably un-measurable in most areas, but when you moved something the dust particles floated through the air.  So I should have wore a dust mask, because on Wed night I really felt it, I would have if I would have been needed again today..  But other than that it was great, we have an awesome group of guys working here, so there's no shortage of a little banter going on all day...

By all means.  That one certainly stayed on topic (purple text denotes sarcasm).

Reading that story you told about the kid at your work reminded me of a student worker we had here a while ago.  He seemed like a good kid, but a little black cloud seemed to follow him around; pretty much a perpetual accident looking for a place to happen.  He finally graduated and got a job as a welder's helper.  He remained in contact with one of his co-workers here, who reported that he'd gotten promoted his very first day on the job.

I haven't talked to him, and can't say for absolute certainty, but I'm pretty sure he got "promoted" because the guy he was assigned to help went to the boss at lunch and said something like "Get this kid away from me before I kill him."

I  am a little concerned that the cleaning up might go too far and take the fun out of this forum, because my work environment is as dry as a arizona martini. This is the only fun I get to have at work, please keep the fun here.

Re: The "Kitty Dump" - Watercooler - Trash it Here - INSTALLED 2018 - Wow - Good Stuff

Lots of towns are that way now.  There are nice things of living in a small rural town, but some prefer the big city.  Having lived in both I like that balance I currently have.  A small city of 17000, but the big city within a short 20-30 drive.

People from the previous town of 2000 I lived in (an hour away) ask me to name something that is better, I usually say, "Costco is not a day trip."  Every time they open their mouth to say something, and as the mental timeline of a trip builds, their mouths close and they nod.

I don't know about New York off the top of my head, but Paris to Athens is pretty easy.  You could even make Palestine in the same day.

Nothing better than the names of some towns in Pennsylvania.

The place you are looking for is right between Blue Balls and Intercourse...

Both those towns are only 30 miles or so from us, going through Intercourse in the rain and coming out wet in the end, only because I forgot my umbrella ...

Plus in between both those towns is Paradise... So we don't have far to go...

Seems it was a popular place back then.

Re: The "Kitty Dump" - Watercooler - Trash it Here - INSTALLED 2018 - Wow - Good Stuff

Well, here's some in Michigan:

______________________________________________________________________

Vulcan, MI: Live long and Prosper

______________________________________________________________________

Christmas, MI (even has Santa's Workshop)

I drive through Christmas every time I head to my parent's house (an 8 hour drive).

______________________________________________________________________

Temperance, MI (probably anything but...)

______________________________________________________________________

Has some pretty funny themed places:

Not typing this name...or I will get moderated.  LOL

______________________________________________________________________

Not to be outdone:

Paradise, MI (it is a pretty cool place...right on Lake Superior.   Awesome views!

______________________________________________________________________

Bad Axe, MI (never been there)

______________________________________________________________________

Edit: adding more:

Fun fact about Zilwaukee, MI:

Zilwaukee was founded in 1848 when Daniel and Solomon Johnson, two brothers from New York City, built a saw mill here.  Officially organized ten years later, the Johnsons gave the name Zilwaukee to the town purposely to cause people to confuse it with the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in hopes of luring settlers there to work.

______________________________________________________________________

Not going there.....but here's a picture from Google:

______________________________________________________________________

Not a misspelling......didn't even know about this one

______________________________________________________________________

Fun Fact: it’s from the first letters of the last names of the eight town fathers: John Grant, Matthew Edge, George Robinson, Thaddeus Mead, W.W. French, Ezekiel Ackley, Oscar Sheppard, and Hezekiah Knaggs.

______________________________________________________________________

LOL

______________________________________________________________________

Yes...I have been there....its a ghost town now.

President Abraham Lincoln the guy on the $5 bill made it a National Holiday.

F.D.R. did make it the same day for everyone in the nation and set the day we all celebrate it.

Dennis Dohogne - Regarding Cliff Clavin/John Ratzenberger -

If you get a chance, look up Jim Jeffries stories about hanging out with John Ratzenberger - absolutely hilarious!

(Also - Jim absolutely nails John's voice when he is talking about him.)
