I have 2016 as the newest version right now so mentioning saves me the time downloading and attempting to open the file. Perhaps a 'macro or other' can be used to automatically post the version?

Amen to that! It saves time for everyone and is just the expedient and courteous thing to do (but we sometimes forget!).
Heard ya load an clear - however most new users don't look or think very far when they stub their toe and there is very little time between the ouch and help......
Maybe Glenn Schroeder might consider that an addition to his FAQ's?
Perhaps an update to the forum software with a drop down on thread creation?
although I don't propose a theme based identification
such as the big'uns do, where animals and popsicles
and all the pastels thereof you can think of,
or a fruits based legend would suit SW-
raspberry, lemon or banana etc.,
I could see it being a drop down menu
in the GUI of the posters original question
and/or in the reply pane or upload link
for the next forum revamp
I will admit if I don't guess the right ver.
I don't chase it til some poor member
asks thru gritted teeth kelef
Your brain - drain
John also has a steampunk keyboard. Wooden keys that have a mechanism like a piano. Or maybe that is just what he had on his wishlist.

I wouldn't mind, but it might fit better in Deepak's Forum Posting instead. Or maybe Richard Doyle could look into getting that information to appear when we hover our cursor on someone's name or icon (especially since it's already available in our profiles)?
lol - Actually my daily wish list is to read anything that Kelef Man writes as I drink my second cup of coffee
Maybe a good location to state the SWX version is where the files are uploaded to a thread. Perhaps a checkbox for the version of the file with NO memory so it has to be checked every time before completing the attachment. There would also need to be a "Not a SolidWorks file" box since sometimes other files such as Word, Excel, pdf, etc. are posted.

Not everyone fills that up in the profile as it's not mandatory
You can use the windows SW last saved with but yes you need to download the file.
May be one can add the version in the file name. For e.g. Test File - 2016
but his spike
just missed his head
I was going to say the same thing Glenn.
A lot of sites have a signature check box that drops said info from you profile to the bottom of the post. Continuous improvement at it's best ...
I had no idea that tag was available for Windows Explorer. I'm changing all my folders to display this. Thanks, Deepak!
It IS available in our profiles ASSUMING THEY FILLED THAT PART OUT!!
I would like to see it as a required field, then we can see it as we hover over it.
I think the BEST place to be forced to indicate the SWX version is where files are uploaded since not everyone fills out or updates their profile and since files uploaded are not necessarily even from the user's current version. I posted a file just the other day that was from 2013 or 2014, even though I am currently using 2016.
Edit your profile and add it to your "Hardware" section and insert the Version before you list your equipment... Hover your mouse over my name..
Like John said, I've placed all the versions I'm using in the hardware section
ah John Stoltzfus
(and Paul Salvador
[and all the others I sadley have forgotten or missed])
a very kind and gracious compliment
as are all the points and badges
you and other kind souls have
assigned to me-
which confuses the newerlings
as they just think that schrødinger is only
Excellent idea. I added that to mine.
Once we get the moderators involved nobody's posts with out being moderated, unless they fill out their info correctly
And by the way, I did state the file was in version 2013 or 2014.
Deepak, You are an Over-Achiever!
What version is Boxx

I think the BEST place is to have the upload software of the forum read the headers (or whatever) imbedded in the file and AUTOMATICALLY display the SW version.
PITA Look at it now...

I believe you're right. The piano player in Peanuts was named Schroeder. For some reason I remembered that.
YES! That's even better! Great suggestion, Rick.
exactley my point sir-
geez I really don't want to
sound soooo æ$$hatish- meh?
(I'm certain I'm preaching to the choir
[and certainly not trying to preach or teach])
ok then Shroedinger's "premis" was to show
the flaw in the ‘Copenhagener's interpretation’
(all states exist until observed[in quantum state/mechanics]),
in a sealed environment, (or forum)
the SW file is all versions
until observed (downloaded and attempted to open)
prior to observation I beleive
the Heisenberg principle applies-
but that's probably just me breakin bad
by the bye: dead cats do exist
by bye: sorry all the good ideas
have all been posted
Kelef Man wrote: ipso fatso-
much the same as its realtive term "ïpso facto" which means 'by the very fact', ipso fatso stands for 'by the very fat'. (2) Can be use as a term of endearment. In my case, my overweight kitty and best buddy, Magoo, is referred to as "ipso fatso" when he insists, at times, to be carried to his food dish. (3) In the feline world, a Garield! >^..^<
Magoo is called Ipso Fatso when he just can't motivate himsel to his food dish to eat AGAIN?!
You call this an over achiever
Actually - it should reflect this
Deepak Gupta Rocks - thanks for sharing your knowledge - proud to have met you
There's already a place for version on the profile it's just not shown when you hover over the name. I updated mine just the same...

Good morning! Sometimes we drift away from the topic for a break, that's good thing. Some of us have fun with it and some just talk about life, some of us refer to that as rambling. Who cares, it's all good! Anyway, your comments on your cat made me want to tell you about mine who I refer to as 'faboy'. As in fat boy. he's not fat and more like a dog than a cat and I'm really a dog person. His real name is Dude and a rescue.
Since we're on the subject of Cats
My "Cougar" purrs "oooo la la" oh so nice
I doubt that people choose cats
it's cats that choose people-
if they're cool the cat stays
if not they move on, punish us
by hoboing for days and then
come back to see if we are ok-
just to let us know who's da boss
and I do try to keep my posts
to under 1500 words-
and that's hard with so many
voices in my head
aside:- anyone who's read the
dead sea scrolls knows which
animal is my spirit guide
(the clue is in my handle)
oh and I did stay on topic,
just didn't write about it
To comment on the term 'voices in my head' would be like opening a can of worms. I take pleasure in the fact that they're not arguments!
I knew it was a typo in
your reply to me "brain-drain" ha
supposed to have been "drain-brain"
