Hello SOLIDWORKS Power Users:

For 1000 points and unlimited glory, solve this riddle:

1. Download the attached part file.

2. Delete all the rounds, without adding extra features, or performing export-import operations.

At the end of this exercise, you will have the following model and feature tree:

Note: this type of challenges are very frequent for tooling designers. Many times, you need to measure the rounds or fillets, remove them, apply draft or other edits, and add the rounds back.

Re: The Weekly Power-User Challenge: Get rid of the rounds the fastest way, with no extra features or exports

Hi Alin,

I ran the attached model through FeatureWorks having it only recognize fillets.  The result was a fillet-less model that I have attached here (I rolled above the recognized fillet to make it look like yours).

I made an attempt at using import diagnosis to delete faces and repair gaps. First attempt failed.

Very good Ned. I have done the same thing in the past (or at least I think I have) in order to fix up fillets in imported sheet metal parts when the internal radius and the outer radius don't jive correctly prior to inserting bends. It did throw me for a bit of a loop when looking at Alins' FM and I saw a surfaces folder and solids folder. I quickly realized what that was about. Don't know why my my FM indicates Imported3, yours Imported2, and Alins' Imported1. Also the top of tree indicates Imported part like he did not use FR and never left his original and a new part was not created.

Puzzled.

You are a good detective, Dennis Holmes!

I wasn't sure if anyone would discover this little clue, hidden in plain sight.

Congratulations! Now, resolve the puzzle.

That doesn't make me any less puzzled.

Re: The Weekly Power-User Challenge: Get rid of the rounds the fastest way, with no extra features or exports

Very nice, Shaodun. A little bit, faster, please.

And, also, try to fine-tune your workflow to avoid renaming the only feature in the tree.

Re: The Weekly Power-User Challenge: Get rid of the rounds the fastest way, with no extra features or exports

I am signing off for today. So far, Ryan is in the lead, being the first one with an acceptable solution. Ned, Deepak and Shaodun used the same tool and technique.

Congratulations to all!

Special mention to Dennis for noticing the clue in my picture. Wow, Dennis!

Could you find a faster way than them? You have until tomorrow at 5 pm ET to challenge Ryan for the big prize.

Here is the approach I used but it still renames the feature.

Edit:.. I see the option now - not to create a new file and overwrite the existing.

Re: The Weekly Power-User Challenge: Get rid of the rounds the fastest way, with no extra features or exports

Since Alin attached two files, one a parasolid, Inspector Clueso is wondering if the parasolid was edited then exported. Then in the part file Imported1 was edited using the modified exported file. Seems crazy but I do get a feature manager that looks just like yours when I do that.

Edit:.. If I could make a decent video I would have.

I attached a Parasolid File for those who have not installed SW2017 yet. As I mentioned in the first post, no saving neutral file is permitted.

Thanks for coming up with the challenges and it is food for thought and nice to see how other people do things.  If you keep it up I'll give you point support - since I robbed the bank

Thanks John. I fully intend to post such challenges, unless users think they are in poor taste.  So far we seem to have fun solving them.
