Hi,

I have made numerous attempts to resolve this issue with SW 2016 SP4.0 flow simulation.

Every time I attempt to run a simulation, I get this message :  'monitor lost connection with solver'.

Has anybody encountered this issue before? If so what can I do to resolve?

I am using a Dell Precision 3510. Please help.

Thanks, Micheal.

Re: 'monitor lost connection with solver'...? SW flow simulation, how to fix?

Hi Michael,

Parts of the Flow solver go through your computer's firewall (don't ask me why).  If you have a firewall, try dropping it and running the solver again.

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have heard of correcting the firewal elsewhere, but i am not very sure how I should go about doing this... Can you gove me any more detail?

Many thanks,

Micheal.

Re: 'monitor lost connection with solver'...? SW flow simulation, how to fix?

What Ryan said is correct. Further details on that note are as follows:

Plan A:

IT should exempt the following processes:

efdsolver.exe and dispatcher.exe

McAfee Firewall settings may require some adjustment.

You can use Windows Resource Monitor > Network to check TCP activity for efdsolver.exe. Ask for IT help to see if any other security software blocks those processes.

If the above procedure did not work let me know to switch to plan B!

Re: 'monitor lost connection with solver'...? SW flow simulation, how to fix?

Like Siavash Khajehhasani says below, you would setup firewall allowances for the efdsolver.exe an dispatcher.exe in the SolidWorks program directory.  Sometimes firewall systems prompt you to allow or deny these but it sounds like they are just set to deny so you would have to go in and create firewall allowances manually for these.  They are located here:

<SOLIDWORKS INSTALL DIRECTORY>\SOLIDWORKS\FloXpress\bin\efdsolver.exe

<SOLIDWORKS INSTALL DIRECTORY>\SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation\binCFW\dispatcher.exe

My own system has them at these locations:

C:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS\FloXpress\bin\efdsolver.exe

C:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation\binCFW\dispatcher.exe

Yours should be in the same or similar spot.

Re: 'monitor lost connection with solver'...? SW flow simulation, how to fix?

Hi Siavash,

I've been intended to solve the same problem with Plan A, but it doesn't work, so I gonna be thankful if You help me, as you said, with Plan B.

Many thanks,

Benet.

Re: 'monitor lost connection with solver'...? SW flow simulation, how to fix?

Over a year later, and I still have not solved it....

I have tried everything with the firewall, but still see the same result. I have even switch off the firewall entirely, but also has not worked.

Not sure what I can do from here...?

Thanks for the help so far.

Michael,

If this has been ongoing for a year I would without a doubt proceed directly to whoever your VAR is and involve them.  I do not doubt that they will be able to investigate this to a workable solution.
