Hi.

We have a problem with our weldment cut list not combining cut lengths which are clearly the same. We have to manually drag and drop the parts together to avoid duplicate parts on our BOM's.

We have been unable to find a cause for this problem although I have noticed people with a similar problem but no solutions, any help would be appreciated.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

Thanks Alen but I have already tried this registry fix but with no success.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

Hey Ben,

No worries, did you upload your UI setting, using copy wizard before you attempted it. Sometimes, file corruption gets saved inside the UI and then issue persists.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

Yes the problem persists with default settings and my own. In addition all four of our seats have similar issues.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

Hey Ben,

Hmmm, not sure if your weldment cutlist has been turned on to Automatically Update, if it is you can turn that off and manually drag/drop bodies into Cut List Item folders to "force" them to be recognized as identical bodies.

If you prefer to leave Automatic Update on, you would need to investigate the bodies to ensure they truly are identical.

Hope this helps,

Alen

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

That is our current fix, turn automatic update off and force the items to be recognised as identical. It is not just specific to this body but happens multiple times on multiple jobs.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

Do the cut angles on both sides are same? If not them this is correct behavior.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

Yes both angles are identical.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

Hey Ben,

what happens when you mirror body? Still same behaviour, in addition try suppressing those corner holes and see what happen.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

Can you attach the file to check?

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

Yes suppressing the holes combines the items in the cut list, however I need to dimension to the holes in my drawing. If I create a configuration without the holes the balloon then shows as a star not the correct BOM item number.

Yes no problem file attached.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

Hey Ben,

That is why we have derived configurations for machining that takes care of that issue as a post process. The reason they are not combining is because the part is not symmetrical now.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

I agree with Alen ,

I would try this method and it should fix the issue

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

Like Deepak said they aren't identicle because of the angles.  You can fix this by making a weld table confige and suppressing some trims and holes etc to get the proper cutlist.

This becomes very prevalent when you add the angle properties to the cutlist.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

You didn't have the sketch defined for the cut extrude (sketch14) and hence the issue.

Check attached part.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

Unfortunately I need to show the holes on the detail drawing for our fabricators, When I insert a view with the holes (as machined configuration) my balloons show a star OR different numbers for identical parts.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

Looks like I skipped over allens post about the holes, that would do it as well, all you need ot do is make a config with the holes suppressed and point your cutlist on drawing to that config.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

Sketch is now fully defined and they still aren't combining, what extra steps did you do if any?

By: Ben Grobb  Fri, 26 Feb 2016 14:18:49 GMT
Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

Yes but then when I balloon the configuration with the holes I get stars or different balloon numbers.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

you can add a view and label it "as welded" then balloon it.  I do this commonly for situations like this.  more of an isometric view.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

Yes that's a solution I have tried and may be my only option. Unfortunately our fabricators aren't the brightest and I may get a fabricated frame with no holes!

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

Hey Ben,

Like i aforementioned earlier, you can make a derived configuration, as machined as welded and create two separate sheets in drawing view. Have the BOM linked to it and then choose the correct configuration, and sorry to hear that your fabrication shop makes mistakes, it is all about proper SOP's (standard operating procedures).

Hopefully, by having two distinct sheets as machined as welded, they will see the difference.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

In this particular case it looks like if you place the holes in the exact same spot on both side (in your model something must be off just a smidge) then they will combine in the cutlist.  and potentially that is what Deepak was talking about when he said to fully define the sketch.

By: Anton Miller  Fri, 26 Feb 2016 14:31:37 GMT
Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

this would be a great idea for an improvement from solidworks that would make a setting to allow the cutlist to only look at profile and length for combining in the cutlist.  But until they fix the "entire shape needs to be the same" issue, then we are stuck with these pesky workarounds.

By: Anton Miller  Fri, 26 Feb 2016 14:36:14 GMT
Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

The holes are in correct position but there diameters were not same and hence was the issue.

By: Deepak Gupta  Fri, 26 Feb 2016 14:36:45 GMT
Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

that would do it!  I cant open the file so I'm not able to inspect it.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

When I fully define each hole with a separate sketch dimension of 10mm the two parts will not combine. If I dimension one hole 10mm and then put an equal relation on the rest of the holes the parts will combine. Very strange.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

I didn't noticed it earlier but for me they are showing correctly even with undefined sketch.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

I'm a little late to the discussion but it's actually quite simple.

The Sketch14 is not symmetrical.

I corrected and it updates properly.

Another thing to keep an eye on is the circles, they need a "equal" relation between all of them.

Construction Lines are also very useful for keeping the circles center-point in line (horizontal/vertical) with one another.

However, I would consider using hole wizard for holes and not a sketch.

Notice in my revised model how few dimensions I needed to define the sketch. No In-Context.

I've attached your frame with "Create Cut List Automatically" & "Update Automatically" enabled.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

Kenneth Barrentine, check my above reply where the original file is fine for me. So sketch 14 is not the root cause.

By: Deepak Gupta  Fri, 26 Feb 2016 16:52:18 GMT
Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

And if I set all the circles equal in sketch 4 without doing anything else then also it shows fine for me.

By: Deepak Gupta  Fri, 26 Feb 2016 17:14:13 GMT
Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

I see what you're saying, you are correct.

And that in itself is proof that Sketch14 is the root cause. ;-)

However, it shouldn't work because the sketch asymmetrical.

I don't know what rounding method Solidworks uses on dimensions to see them as equal.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

I'm not sure what exactly is the issue but just making the holes equal solves the mystery but also creates mystery.

Re: Identicle parts not combining in cutlist

Hello,

I don't know if this is a correct place to reply but I encountered simillar problem.

We have two Identical plates of exactly same sizes and thickness, with same material

Their drilling plan, hole sizes are different

By default Solidworks has created two separate entries in cut-list, but we want them to be under one item number or Baloon for ordering that part with two Qty.

I just right clicked the cut list, in cut-list sorting option (in faces/features to exclude) I selected that hole wizard feature which was creating a variation.

Then it combined the parts in one folder with 2 Qty and same balloon or item no entry.

I don't know if that will help but just sharing a thought.

Regards,

Nikhil
