I'm attempting to accurately model some of our foldable parts using the Sheet Metal feature, in such a way that we can anticipate any problems with interferences before manufacturing. I've managed to get a good start on how to work around the feature such that it allows me to have material thickness with V-Groove cuts and still be able to fold the part (thanks to the post byBernie DarazinAccommodating V-cut and Press Brake in Solidworks). Flattening V-Grooved Sheet Metal I have a piece of aluminum flat bar that needs a dado along its length, and pockets milled out intermittently. At the bends I want to mill out v-grooves so that the part can be bent by hand.

I am making a sheet metal part that I want to divide into multiple bodies. Normally I create the overall body then use lines in an extrude-cut with the the thin feature box checked. Today I tried it and the box isn't there. My coworkers tried on there computers doing the exact same steps and theirs all had the box.

From another thread, it was mentioned that cuts and holes do not respond the same way in sheet metal. I use cuts all the time in models so that many cuts can be edited at one time from the sketch perspective.

I'm doing sheet metal parts in SolidWorks 2016. If I create a new sheet metal part, I get what I assume is the standard list of properties. But I've got sheet metal part files that were created in older versions of SolidWorks.

I reported this when I found if the folds are not 90 degrees then closed corner does not extend the face correctly (reported at approx 2012 sp4). Now I find that at 2013 sp 4, if the sketch defining the edge flange is not rectangular the problem occurs, even though all the edges involved are at right angles.

I am getting a "cross break" when I loft two sheet metal sketches together. Quick description; I am trying to hold 5.00inch O.D. at one end of the box and 5.625inch O.D. at the other. The back face is on the same plane and at a 90deg bend.

I am designing a metal box that has slight deformations included before the actual bending process. These slight lines add strength to the large surface and they also give a little look to the part. However, these preliminary bends are not accounted for when making the actual bends in the part. I've attached a picture so you can see what I mean.

I need to fit a roughly rectangular piece of sheetmetal onto a weldment. In order for it to fit properly, it must be "cupped"slightly along both directions of the panel. (The cupping is about 4 inches along a length of 60 inches).I have found that the flex command allows me to manipulate the solid body showing me at the same time the need to elongate it to fit properly after welding it to the other members. My question is directed at those who have used FLEX in this way.

Attached is both a screen shot and a model with closed corner problem I am unable to solve. Yes there is a work around of merging another tab/sketch to the flat pattern after the fact. But that does not show the results in the bent model.

Why always inner radius is specified in sheet metal ? Why not outside radius. This is because when manufacturing/pressing sheet metal parts the internal bend radius is needed for the tooling.

I use SW 2014 SP 5.0 and I am trying to construct a cylinder with 2mm thickness and 186mm OD. I am designing it by creating an arc and leaving a 0.5mm gap and then doing a base flange and I use a bend radius of 91mm (the radius of the ID) and a K factor of 0.5. My issue is that if I cut the sheet metal according to the dimension that the flat pattern suggests (577.55mm), the cylinder I construct is larger.
